Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 22cm
Snowfall at base this season 653cm
Posted on Thursday 24th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
It was a lovely morning yesterday. There were sunny and blue skies with a moderate wind at times and in places but not enough to mess up lift operations. The clouds kept away from Yuzawa for the most part in the morning and a bit longer with more gradually turning up in the afternoon. Rather mild. Evening, it got a little wet before snow started and this morning there's a nice new layer of fresh snow on the ground once again.
This morning Kagura are reporting 40cm of fresh snowfall and Maiko are reporting just 10cm, which seems a bit low. We have measured 22cm of fresh snowfall this morning in Yuzawa and 30cm a little to the north in Shiozawa town area.
Wind conditions are preventing Tashiro Area of Kagura from opening this morning. It also seems that the top lift at Yuzawa Kogen is closed, but the Kogen area (including the Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway) of that resort is otherwise open as normal. And so is GALA Yuzawa.
It is colder today and snow is forecast through the day, perhaps some light snow at times tomorrow and then back to heavy snow for Saturday.
