The snow keeps on coming in - and it doesn't look like it is going to give up and clear up anytime soon with some big numbers expected later tomorrow into Sunday. Keep that in mind if you are planning on being here over the weekend.
Light snow, moderate in places, at the moment; and that is what is generally expected for today, perhaps easing off at times particularly this afternoon.
Kagura are reporting 20-30cm of fresh snow 'since yesterday' and Maiko are reporting 10cm 'since yesterday evening' (which again seems curiously low). I have measured more than what those resorts are - 9cm yesterday evening and another 24cm this morning. So that makes 33cm since my report yesterday.
Why the differences? It's a good question but... I don't have a clear answer and there is probably some 'case by case' going on too. Some may suggest that some ski resorts go a bit easy on the numbers once there is generally lots of snow - and are much keener to report larger numbers at the beginning and end of a season. Some may say it's just nature not depositing the snow in fixed amounts and in a uniform manner.
I personally really wish that more ski resorts would report fresh snowfall numbers each day, but the fact is that most of them don't and choose to just report that snow depth number. Which some might say is a pretty meaningless number. ;)
