  • Hakuba Now: Thursday 20th February 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 717cm Posted on Thursday 20th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. More snow (see the numbers below). While it is still snowing at higher elevations, as of 9am it is actually quite bright down at base. Feels like the sun is trying to break through. It doesn't feel so windy but top lifts are still being affected at the start of the day at Happo-one, Tsugaike and Goryu/47 ---- I think that is perhaps dealing with the snow rather than wind. Snow clouds might still be with us for a few more days though, so we probably can't expect clear skies. For that, we will need to wait until early next week. Maybe. Lots of fresh to enjoy wherever you choose to slide. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Top: 15cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 490cm Top: 240cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park New snowfall (reported as 'todays snowfall' by the ski area): Top: 25cm Base: 15cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 525cm Base: 270cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 30cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 480cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 20cm Usagidaira (1400m): 20cm Nakiyama (800m): 10cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 650cm Usagidaira (1400m): 340cm Nakiyama (800m): 210cm ------------ Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field New snowfall (reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 10cm Village Side: 10cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 370cm Village Side: 180cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 485cm ------------ Jigatake New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 15cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 220cm ------------ Kashimayari Skijo Family Park Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 245cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Upper: 409cm Base: 189cm ------------ White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 250cm Hakuba Now 2024-2025 season Data as Thursday 20th February 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 717cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 58 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 38cm (28th December) November 2024 snowfall 42cm reported on 3 days December 2024 snowfall 278cm reported on 21 days January 2025 snowfall 235cm reported on 19 days February 2025 snowfall 162cm reported on 15 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. • Myoko Now: Thursday 20th February 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 21cm Snowfall at base this season 1404cm Posted on Thursday 20th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The snow has decided to take a break, at least momentarily, as the sun comes out with some blues skies appearing. It happened yesterday, too, but it was a matter of the sun coming out, a bit of blue showing up, and then the snow turned right back on again. Some gusting winds yesterday from time to time, too. The total snowfall overnight wasn't that much, which is much appreciated by those hard-working folks who get up early every day to clear the streets and parking lots (yes, I am giving myself a well-deserved pat on the back). Nice comments at Niseko Now! about the snowfall here vs. what's going on up there on the North island. We are a lot further south, but we are up higher; my reporting station is just below the Akakan area at about 700 meters, with the resorts going up to about 1550 meters and the peaks all at 1,935 meters and higher, up to Mt. Myoko at 2,454. I've enjoyed some great skiing up there on Hokkaido, and it does get colder so the powder can be a lot lighter than here, but so it's not about which is better but what fun you can find. The terrain, too, is so different there vs. our rough, rugged volanic terrain (lots more valleys and ridges to get lost in). This is just our year to get pounded with snow (or, as the locals are saying, getting back to a normal winter after a few light years). Note that a few lifts are not running, and things may be a bit delayed as the resorts clean up after the blasts of fresh. Nice that the sun's out, though, as that will help bring down snow on the roofs and let everybody get ready for the next snowfall, which may in fact come later today. And, as I write this, there are beautiful, wispy clouds streaming off of Mt. Myoko in pretty high winds up on the mountain (still just a mild breeze here at base). Akakura Kanko: 420cm, -8° At the moment, the animation showing the active lifts have all lifts closed; the resort reports that it will be opening a bit late to allow for snow clearance, and that Hotel No. 2 may or may not run (meaning use the gondola to get higher up the mountain) Akakura Onsen: 440cm, -5° Yodel No. 5 (Maruyama) lift closed due to avalanche risk Ikenotaira Onsen Alpen Blick: 370cm, -6° Myoko Suginohara: 330cm top, 250cm base, -9° Kyukamura RunRun: 400cm, -3° (yesterday’s report) Seki Onsen: 590cm, -6° Tangram Madarao Tokyu Resort: 265cm, -6° Madarao Mountain Resort: 370cm, -6° Lotte Arai Resort: 628cm, -1° (OI wonder why they are reporting a big drop in the snowpack?) Kokenashi lift is “being prepared” Kurohime Kogen Snow Park: 290cm top, 240cm base; -6° Myoko Now 2024-2025 season Data as of Thursday 20th February 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 1404cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 55 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 87cm (16th January) November 2024 snowfall 8cm reported on 1 day December 2024 snowfall 513cm reported on 19 days January 2025 snowfall 415cm reported on 19 days February 2025 snowfall 468cm reported on 16 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Myoko. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Madarao region of Nagano New snowfall at base 38cm Snowfall at base this season 851cm Weather overview Snow Wind NW Temperature - Visibility Varied Posted on Wednesday 19th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from a cold and snowy Madarao. The ski area is (only) reporting 20cm of fresh snowfall this morning, but my measurement is 38cm (and the webcam 'stick' seems to be similar to me). So, lots of fresh snow again and it's still coming down. We can expect snow clouds to be across the region until the weekend, but perhaps it will be calmer and less snow by then. We are enjoying much snowier February than last year and if we get much more we'll be starting to threaten the 'best ever' numbers of recent years for February in 2013 and 2022. • Geto Kogen Now: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Geto Kogen region of Iwate New snowfall at base 38cm Snowfall at base this season 1139cm Posted on Wednesday 19th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Geto Kogen. Another 0.5m of snowfall reported by the ski area this morning and just under 40cm lower down. It is a cold and snowy/foggy kind of morning with limited visibility. There was some tragic news yesterday as someone lost their life out on the mountain. I have not spoken with anyone directly involved yet; rather, hearing about it on the (local and national) news and locals, and do not feel it appropriate to bring the discussion here. But, of course, thoughts with everyone involved. And a reminder of the very real dangers out there in the snow. As a general comment, if you see ropes and signs saying no entry, they are there for a good reason. Geto Kogen has been much more progressive than many ski areas in Japan regarding the opening of official tree runs for people to enjoy and I feel should be commended for that. Anyway, take care out there. Scheduled ski area operations: All courses should be available except B2 Tree run courses open: All should be open apart from Rookie 1, Rookie 2, Extreme and Cascade. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Another large amount of snow since yesterday after some clearer periods during the daytime. It is really snowing heavily right now. Very early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 40cm; the tourism office is giving a big range of numbers (20cm at Hasuike and 70cm at Okushiga Kogen). Very limited visibility and... well, you've got to be committed to the cause to be out in these conditions! The heavy snow/wind conditions might generally have eased off by Friday bit there is still a chance that there is some snow over the weekend. It will surely be calmer, though. "How can there be 70cm of snowfall and the official snow depth number remains unchanged", someone asks. It seems unlikely, right? I think you need to ask the ski areas about that! The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . "Furi sugi!" my neighbor called out to me—"Too much snow!" I had to agree, especially after dealing with someone else's stuck car, a miniature avalanche coming off a massive pile of snow (which I previously created with my snow machine), three blown sheer pins on said snow thrower and all kinds of delaying factors. Which means I am reporting late, but full info from all the resorts for a change! Hopefully lifts are running well, although Akakura Onsen does note that Yodel No. 5, the steep lift up to the highest point (known by locals and Maruyama, since it is a "round mountain") is closed. There wasn't as much snow as I expected, actually; could be that with the wind it's hard to get a good figure. Seemed like a lot during the hours of morning plowing, but it's also pretty dense. At the same time, it's also not well consolidated; stand on the snow and your leg is going to go down a long way. Stay safe, people, and enjoy the powder! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from a cold Hakuba. So, not much going on... just the usual lots more snow! The record snowfall number for the day goes to Cortina ski area, which is reporting up to 40cm of snowfall on the mountain. Other ski areas seem to be saying there's up to 25cm or so in upper areas; there was just over 10cm on the top of my car this morning.
