Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 13cm
Snowfall at base this season 1454cm

A cloudless blue sky; not something we see very often in Myoko, at least this month!

It’s nice and warm, too, after a pretty cold night. There are a lot of buildings around town that are absolutely covered with snow (easy to see the unoccupied places). The sun helps a lot in getting some of that weight reduced, or off the roofs entirely. One roof we were clearing off yesterday had a layer of heavy blue ice under there, so not just heavy but dangerous as well. Luckily we got the snow out without breaking windows or removing tiles (or hurting the roof itself).

The snow has also kept some lifts from running, too, even when the websites tell us all is ok. I heard that Suginohara's gondola was not running a few days ago (and people weren’t pleased with the normal lift option, which is not the fast way up the hill). Sorry about that, and I’ll keep trying to get real news to you.
