The snow clouds have moved on after leaving us a bit more snow and the sun is out. Lovely. A very fine day to be out and about on the slopes. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . More good news this morning, the snow is coming down and the winds are blowing - it feels like a good old winter storm. Very cold as well with Yakebitaiyama winning the coldest place competition reporting a temperature of -14C. Here in Maruike it is more like -9C at the moment. The wind has been affecting a few exposed lifts around the area but Shibutoge apart all areas do seem to be (at least mostly) open. Some people may not like being out on the slopes in these conditions, but they are needed and lets hope we get more snow during the day. The local forecast tells us to expect this cold snowy front to ease today and then tomorrow and Friday expect clearer skies over Shiga Kogen. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The snow has arrived and we're up above 1m of snow at some of the resorts around Shiga Kogen at last. Nice snow too, it's good and cold and if it continues to fall today we should get a decent amount from this. There might be a break in the snow overnight according the the local forecast but it will be back later Tuesday into Wednesday. Thursday and Friday clearer skies are currently on the forecast and so a decent amount of snow over the next few is just what we need. Come on, bring it on Santa! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen, where from today more lifts are open and more connections between the different resorts are skiable. We are still not fully open with steeper slopes and some areas with not enough cover to open yet, but definitely a change with all of the major area now open. Areas such as Giant and Terakoya opening properly for the first time this season. Light snow is falling this morning and poor visibility with the mountains generally completely covered in cloud. There's just a cm or so of wettish snow settling on the roads and on tops of cars now. Snow showers on and off over the next few days. Tomorrow night we were due a potential storm but that seems to have been downgraded somewhat on the latest local forecast. Snowfall is still forecast though with colder conditions. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A few more cm indeed we got yesterday, though not an exciting amount to report. Snow clouds remain over the region and right now it is snowing lightly in areas, just cloudy in others, with a moderate wind as well which may well affect some of the higher lifts this morning. It has been a very cold morning. When Yakebitaiyama posted it's report at 9am, the temperature was -14C. It's more like a -8C here im the Maruike area at the moment. Still looking good for decent snowfall late weekend / early in the week. It is a lovely morning here in Shiga Kogen with the sun shining down on us and everywhere looking all snowy white and extremely skiable/snowboardable! Things are still very quiet at this stage of the season and while the open runs are still limited and we are far from being fully connected up yet, it should be a fine day out on the slopes today. It is a cold morning and will stay cold through tomorrow but come Friday and the weekend temperatures will probably rise somewhat - though still remain under 0 - and we will see more clearer skies. There's not much snow on the forecast into next week as it stands now. I would expect more runs and lifts to be open for the weekend though, will let you know any news on that nearer the time. They were all huddled together in the hot spring and looking very relaxed as well. They must love it in winter when it's cold and they can just jump in there! Back to Shiga Kogen and this morning the winds are calmer and the snow has eased somewhat and we have a few more lifts running again. Even a bit of blue sky at times as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The snow really turned on yesterday afternoon and this morning we are still in the middle of a very decent snow storm. It is coming down in style at the moment. Information from around the resorts this morning is... patchy... but while I can't see any big changes, this snowfall will definitely be a big help moving forward. There are actually seemingly fewer lifts operating this morning, partly due to it being an early season weekday perhaps and also because of the weather conditions, but early on it seems to be like this: Sun Valley - 1 lift Mammoth - 1 lifts Ichinose Family - 1 lifts Ichinose Diamond - 1 lift Yakebitaiyama - 1 lifts Kumanoyu - 1 lifts Yokoteyama - 4 lifts Resorts around the area reporting up to 40cm of new snow this morning, and I was seeing at least 30cm on the tops of cars. Not a whole lot of snow to report since yesterday as it didn't amount to much in terms of cm, and any that did fall was moved about by the winds, and this morning is a cold and sunny start to the day. Once this coming weekend is over, and if the forecast is correct, we can expect more of the areas to be open next week. We are still expecting moderate to heavy snowfall and strong winds over the weekend.
