The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Madarao Open! And it's a lovely morning for it. No new snow to report but the sun is out now and early morning clouds are quickly disappearing. The Number 1 lift at Madarao Kogen is starting it's season this morning with (for now) just the Paradise Course open. Snow cover is acceptable but it's far from 'deep' yet. There may be bushes out there out to trip you up. They are also saying that they are not grooming due to the relative lack of snow. Still. First turns are always fun! Maybe a bit of snow tomorrow but after that it's going to be perhaps Friday before the next proper snowfall.... and it's looking promising! Keep an eye on the forecast. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . I have good news! Madarao Kogen will be opening from tomorrow (Sunday). Some more snow overnight and it has been snowing this morning, though forecast is saying that clearing conditions likely. The resort is reporting 25-35cm of snow out there and so going to go for a part open... They plan to have the Number 1 lift operating with a few courses open for skiing and snowboarding. With only one lift running the lift tickets will be 1000 yen for adults and seniors and 500 yen for children. Remember snow is thin on the ground and the resort themselves are recommending that you don't come with new gear just in case... don't want scratches! Still it will be great to get out on the slopes at last. No official word yet from connecting Tangram Ski Circus. Forecast weather for tomorrow... sun! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . 5-10cm of snow overnight and Madarao have announced that there just isn't enough for a safe opening today. Basically, they'll open as soon as they can which will be after the next delivery of snow. When will that be? If only any of us knew. Right now there's actually some blue sky appearing from behind breaks in the cloud. Everywhere is looking white. Well, apart from those blue clouds. There may be more snow on the way overnight tonight so we'll just have to see how that turns out. Beyond tomorrow there's not a whole lot of snow on the forecasts into next week which is a bit worrying.... I'll update tomorrow with the latest. UPDATE AT 2pm: It is snowing, but difficult to make a decision apparently and Madarao Kogen have said that they will decide whether they can open tomorrow morning at around 7am. It is all going to depend on the snow though they seem to be saying there's up to 30cm now. Tomorrow my report will be later on in the day unfortunately so if you are planning to go to Madarao Kogen tomorrow I recommend you keep an eye on their website early tomorrow morning. --- Original morning report: We have some snowfall this morning and more expected during the day. Enough for the resorts to open as open? Right now, no. But it will depend on how much snow falls today and tonight and Madarao Kogen resort have announced that they will make a decision later on today. No doubt we will be hearing from Tangram Ski Circus as well... I will try to update this page later on today if possible; otherwise the next update will be later tomorrow (reports will be delayed a bit tomorrow). The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning as we fast approach the planned opening date of the season for the Madarao Kogen and Tangram Ski Circus resorts. The big question is... will they be able to? Right now we're back to a mostly snow-less mountain with the last week or so seeing a mix of mild temperatures and rain. Not the best. But best to get those things out of the way before the season I suppose! So to this week. The region is set to enjoy a drop in temperatures and snowfall around mid-week. Thursday looks like it should be the peak of that cold front. Just how much snow falls and if it will be enough for an opening.... well, we'll just have to wait and see. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Madarao Kogen is planning to open on Friday 18th December, so we are now just over 2 weeks away from opening. We have had bunch of varying conditions since my last report, though the generally mild start to winter has continued and currently there's just a dusting of snow on the top of the mountain. There's not as much snow yet as we would have hoped for and some of the resorts that plan to open in late November have been unable to do so. So the whole region is ready and waiting for the snow to arrive in style. Tonight and tomorrow may see the mountain turn white once again. I'll update you again next week with the latest. This is just me checking in to welcome you back after a hot summer (cooler up here!) and a really beautiful autumn. Bit of thin cloud around earlier but that will clear up leaving us with lovely blue skies again (very probably), and it'll get warm too. Not so warm overnight actually and again another relatively chilly start but that won't last. Just a few more days to go at Madarao Kogen this season, including today. Sad is me. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Here we are at the end of another ski and snowboard season at Madarao Kogen, and today has been another fine day to finish things up. It has been a good season for snowfall and the statistics clearly show that with 1055cm observed at base compared with 734cm the previous season. The statistics can be found near the bottom of this page and they make for interesting reading. --- I quite like the way Madarao Kogen finishes at the end of March - doesn't stretch things out and possibly even overstay it's welcome with ever deteriorating conditions. Rather, Madarao chooses to go out on a sort of high note with pretty much everything open right up until the end. Good on them. Having said that it's always sad of course and we want more. Remember, Madarao is a very nice place to visit out of the snow season too - I recommend coming and checking it out and escaping the heat of down below! --- Thank you for reading these Madarao Now reports, hope you enjoyed reading them and you found them helpful. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . The resort is reporting 15-20cm of fresh this morning and I can vouch for that on this very cold morning with a bit of a wind as well. Going to need to get wrapped up proper today if you are venturing out there with similar conditions forecast for the day and possibly into tomorrow as well. Some heavy snowfall brewing up in time for the weekend as well, so we shouldn't be short of fresh this week. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Lots of lovely light snow this morning in Madarao. That's what we like to see! Madarao is reporting a full 40-50cm of snow on the mountain this morning since yesterday. How does that sound? There's certainly a big chunk of snow to move off my car, but I think I'll leave that until later and instead head out for some first tracks. Which should be absolutely marvellous today! It's cold too and a moderate wind at times. Light snow was still falling earlier but actually there's some blue sky now as well and it's just cloud/fine for the moment. May not last though as snow is forecast for today and into tomorrow.
