Not to worry though because this morning we have some snow on the ground. Here's what resorts are reporting: Kagura: 10cm Maiko: 5-10cm And there's 5cm of snow on the top of my car this morning and at our measuring points both in Yuzawa and just to the north in Minamiuonuma. It's snowing still as well with snow still on the forecast for today, tomorrow and beyond. Exciting to get more fresh - let's have lots of it please. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Wow, what an early morning it should be today! Yesterday it was snowing pretty much all the day, but it didn't amount to much - just a few cm by the time it got dark. But it snowed overnight and there's 22cn of fresh snow on the ground now. Here's what resorts are reporting: Kagura: 20-30cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 25cm Kagura (Tashiro): 20cm Maiko Snow Resort: 20cm What's more, as of 8am, there's some blue sky up there as well as the hanging-on cloud. That wasn't expected with snow still forecast for the day, so it may well cover up and continue fairly soon. Indeed, there's more cloud to the north of Yuzawa. But first tracks at least should be really great this morning. Yesterday, the snow clouds were generally tracking to the north of the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region, and here we actually had some sunshine and blue skies during the day. Very light snow at times in places. And in the evening it was snowing and overnight too I heard the sprinklers going - but there's not much to report in terms of cm. I would say that 3cm since my report yesterday is the number (even though that has mostly by now disappeared). The sun is out this morning. Some cloud around but also increasingly blue sky and sunshine. Forecasts do say that it will probably be clouding over again later, so perhaps changeable conditions once again. Forecasts still have snow there for tomorrow but like today it will probably be fairly mild so we'll just have to see what happens. Spring is coming on stronger of late and so any signs of winter are having to be stronger to win out. If that makes sense! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's snowing again! First of all back to yesterday, and it was a lovely morning with the skies clouding over and getting overcast by around midday. And this morning the snow is falling - just 2cm at our measuring point as of 8:20am but for the moment it is coming down nicely - let's hope it continues. It's not particularly cold, currently just slightly above zero, though it shouldn't warm up too much during the day. Not as much as yesterday, perhaps a high of around 3C in town. Kagura are reporting 5-10cm of fresh snow and our guy in Naeba posted 7cm on the report, so it looks like we can expect around that might at higher elevations. And hopefully more come the end of today. Snow clouds still might be hanging around tomorrow (yesterday the forecast was saying clearer weather), so let's see if they can stick around. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. And after a day of part fine / part cloud yesterday, it was snowing (rather wet snow) in the evening and overnight. Here's how much fresh snow resorts are reporting this morning: Kagura (main): 20cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 10cm Kagura (Tashiro): 15cm Maiko Snow Resort: 10-15cm Not as much as that on the ground in town - we are measuring 6cm - but it is snowing still now. It's not expected to continue much longer though with something of a clear up of conditions forecast by this afternoon. Tomorrow should be fine and sunny and getting slightly milder again. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Morning from Yuzawa. Some fresh snow this morning. Not really around town, but higher up; here's the numbers: Kagura (main area): 15cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 10cm Kagura (Tashiro): 5cm Maiko Snow Resort: 10cm (presumably top) So it looks like we can expect around 5-15cm of fresh snow on higher course areas this morning. Yesterday it was raining in town in the afternoon though just slightly above town it was sleet or wet snow. It is snowing now - wet snow - and not really the kind that is going to give us any cm on the roads... though fingers crossed there will be some more higher up on the slopes. Snow clouds are forecast to be over the area during today and overnight. Currently it is not raining or snowing just to the north of Yuzawa. Clearer skies are expected from tomorrow and over the weekend. Resorts on weekdays are much quieter now, though weekends will still probably be quite busy. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday that light snow didn't amount to much though at times and in higher areas it did continue to come down from the sky lightly. No new cm to add to the report though from the day yesterday... ...but there's actually a bit of fresh snow on the ground this morning. And I see that Kagura are reporting 5-10cm of fresh snowfall and Maiko Snow Resort are reporting 5cm on their upper areas, so again - head high for the fresh! This morning there's a fair bit of cloud over Yuzawa, but quite a lot of blue sky just to the north where the sun is out. Definitely feels like it might clear up today and the local forecast says that a high of around 4-5C is likely. (Must add that often they seem to "under-estimate" on that score). Monday is a national holiday in Japan so tomorrow is the first day of a long weekend. It's really nice to see a layer of snow on the ground and on top of the car this morning... around 3-5cm around town areas, with more on the slopes as you go higher. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Well, things didn't really clear up yesterday - rather there was still snow falling in higher areas during the day, and a bit wet lower down. This morning, it's snowing! I'm happy to be able to report snow on the ground in town - 7cm at our point in Yuzawa, 4cm in Minamiuonuma to the north of Yuzawa. And here is what the 'resorts that report' are reporting: Kagura: 20cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 5cm Kagura (Tashiro): 15cm Maiko Snow Resort: 10-15cm It's still snowing as of 8am and it's forecast to be snowing for the day. Sunny skies are forecast for the weekend so this snowfall is perfect timing for the weekend. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow is just about easing off now after a day and night of on-off snowfall. It's difficult to put a number on what has fallen since yesterday because there were times when it was falling and building up a few cm, then it disappeared, then it started again. With 2cm on the ground this morning I would say that 6cm is probably a fair representation of what has fallen since my last report. Here is what the resorts are reporting this morning: Kagura: 10cm Maiko: 5-10cm So there's another layer out there to play in this weekend. There's a lot of cloud around still now but the forecast is for clearer skies and sunshine and so perhaps it will be quickly changing from now. It should be a good weekend, especially higher up and definitely very good for the date - amazing that some of the official snow depths are still going up! The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Morning from Yuzawa. It's another of those days when it's rather difficult to put an actual number on the snowfall - it was falling on and off during the day yesterday... sometimes building up a little and then disappearing, then building up a little once more. I think 4cm is a fair representation of how much fell since my report yesterday, though there's no fresh to be seen on the ground at the start of the day today. (Hope that makes sense!) Here's what is being reported by ski resorts: Kagura: a rather curious 5cm-30cm at the Kagura Area; 5cm at Mitsumata; 10cm at Tashiro. Maiko Snow Resort: 5cm I'm interested in that 30cm at Kagura and how it ranges from 5cm to 30cm! Sadly, I can't make my way up there today to check first-hand. Lots of cloud around this morning still, some rather grey ones in places but much brighter in some directions and the forecast does point to clearer conditions during the day today. It should get up to around +6C in town today and a little warmer tomorrow with sunny skies forecast. Anyway, I'm jealous if you can make your way up to check out the snow today. Have fun.
