Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 6cm
Snowfall at base this season 947cm

Posted on Saturday 25th March 2017 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

The snow is just about easing off now after a day and night of on-off snowfall.

It's difficult to put a number on what has fallen since yesterday because there were times when it was falling and building up a few cm, then it disappeared, then it started again. With 2cm on the ground this morning I would say that 6cm is probably a fair representation of what has fallen since my last report.

Here is what the resorts are reporting this morning:

Kagura: 10cm

Maiko: 5-10cm

So there's another layer out there to play in this weekend.

There's a lot of cloud around still now but the forecast is for clearer skies and sunshine and so perhaps it will be quickly changing from now.

It should be a good weekend, especially higher up and definitely very good for the date - amazing that some of the official snow depths are still going up!

Oh yes - some are stuck on what they have been for a long time regardless of fresh snow or melt, and some go down... hey, take it out with the resorts, ok? ;)
