Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 166cm Posted on Monday 23rd December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good morning skiers and boarders, And the news just keeps on coming! Bad news first again: Only 1, one, ichi, uno, eins, centimeter of snow. And it just baaaaarely made the 1 cm minimum. If I could file a complaint with Mother Nature, I would. Patience, patience, young padawan. All things will come, and we aren't outside of the normal pattern. I'm just getting excited for the powder season...I have a new outfit to test out after all. Now the good news: The magic carpet snow escalator thing is open on the Furano side. Great news for uber beginners. The one on the Furano side is quite long and has a nice gentle slope. Gonna have to wait longer for the Kitanomine one. Only TWO more shopping days until Christmas. Better make your final decisions! Think snow. Ropeway, ALL lifts open. NO Gondola. NO Kitanomine magic carpet. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 165cm Posted on Friday 20th December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good Morning Skiers and Boarders, NEWS, NEWS all around. First today: The second run off Lift E is now open. Now you can go skier's right OR left from the top. The possibilities are dizzying. A bit more snow. More light snow later today. Very COLD tonight and tomorrow night...down to around -15 C, or almost below zero for the Yanks. Now tomorrow: the long awaited day has finally arrived...Kitanomine will open as scheduled tomorrow, Dec 21. Unfortunately, the Gondola needs a bit more snow, so we have to wait a few more days, but the BIG news regarding the Gondola is that they FINALLY installed larger ski racks to accommodate wider skis...nothing like joining the 21st century. Sadly, boarders will still have to carry their boards into car. Can't have everything, I guess. Even though combination racks clearly exist, it appears that the Prince didn't get that memo, or they didn't do the right Google search. I digress. The Gondola terminal building has also been revamped. New paint, carpet, furniture, lockers, huge TV monitors, even drink machines are everywhere. It was long overdue, and looks really spiffy. There are also now THREE ticket clerks at the main counter, so by my math, the lines should be 50% quicker. Also welcome. Think snow. Ropeway, Lifts C, D, E open. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 157cm Posted on Wednesday 18th December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . God morgen skiløpere og snowboardere, That's Norwegian, because overnight was Brrrrrrrrr chilly! It got down to -19 C! That's -2 in dog years, er, Farenheit for the 'Mericans. Anyways, that's quite properly cold. The hands were a-burning outside this morning! Bring out the warm gloves. [Yes, yes, Great Swami, but what are the slopes like?] Ah, yes. Onto the snow. 7 cm of vewy fwuffy stuff overnight, and things are looking good. It's just like Dad always said, save up a bit every month, and over time it will really grow into something. The little dribs and drabs of snow we've been having eventually do add up to a good base. More snowcats spotted in key areas of Kitanomine this morning. The run formerly known as Giant (now "G3". Wow, what a winner!) is being groomed, and there was also one cat up on top near the Gondola station. So if Vegas were offering odds on Kitanomine opening as scheduled on the 21st, I'd wager they'd be pretty good odds. Anyways, it's very blue out there today. And with the cold temps, the new snow stuck to all the tree branches. Beautiful. Counting today, only 7 more shopping days till Christmas. Amazon Japan already saying new orders will be delivered after Christmas, so better hit an actual store. Think snow. Ropeway, Lifts C, D, E open. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 12cm Snowfall at base this season 146cm Posted on Monday 16th December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Hello skiers and snowboarders, Good news on several fronts. First, good chunk of snow again last night. Second, the snowcats were busy grooming the lower part of Kitanomine, so maybe it can open on the 21st as planned. Third, Lift E is open on the top of the Furano side, but only 1 run. We'll take what we can get. So for the first time this season, we have true top-to-bottom skiing. English muffin update: Costco in Sapporo is currently carrying English muffins, which I discovered on a recent supply trip. Bought a package, threw them in my freezer so I can parse them out carefully, and ordered a new toaster from Amazon. Life is looking up. Only 9 more shopping days until Christmas. Think snow. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 11cm Snowfall at base this season 134cm Posted on Sunday 15th December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Bonjour skieurs et snowboardeurs, 11 cm of new snow, and very fwuffy. Brushes right off the car. It's not ideal, but 10 cm here and 10 cm there and it eventually adds up. Big news today is that the groomers are working on the G1 run, so maybe Kitanomine will open on the 21st. The run formerly known as Giant (now called the very clever G3) still has lots of bush still sticking out, so definitely need some more for full operations. The resort snow report (aka The Man) says the depth at the base is 40 cm (on top is allegedly 105 cm), and I basically agree with that. We have snow, it is snowing every day, but it really hasn't built up that much. Dribs and drabs. Ten more shopping days until Christmas. Think snow. Ropeway, Lifts C & D. Let's get with the program, Mother Nature! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! In resort news today, the B1 run from the top of the Ropeway to the base has been opened as of today. This will give beginners a much longer run, and a nice way to get back down at the end of the day, along with the intermediate A2 run. You just gotta love these imaginative names for the runs and lifts here in Furano. That's all folks! Only 11 more shopping days until Christmas. Think snow. Ropeway, Lifts C & D. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Good Morning Skiers & Boarders, A beautiful mostly blue-sky day here in Furano. We had a few flurries yesterday that gave a bit of snow. The resort is reporting 10 cm on top, but that's not how we roll at SnowJapan. That data is only for your reference. Snow-wise, we ARE getting snow, and it IS staying plenty cold, but the forecast is calling for "light snow" for the foreseeable future. And by "light snow", I don't think they are talking about the snow quality that Furano is renowned for. While that is better than NO snow, we still need a good chunk more for the rest of the mountain to open, especially Kitanomine by the 21st. Stay positive. Get your Christmas shopping done. Lift C, the beginner chair on the Furano side is now open, along with one run. The Magic Carpet is not open yet, so still a bit tough for Uber-beginners. The Lavender Bus has added 3 morning busses going from downtown up through the Kitanomine Zone and ending at the Furano Zone. Times are 8:00, 8:40, and 9:40. This should do much to help those staying downtown to get up to the slopes in morning. The Evening Shuttle Bus going down into town begins service on Dec 27. Think snow. Ropeway, Lifts C & D open.
