The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's Friday, 17th May 2024, and the last day for the ski lift of the season at Yokoteyama, wrapping up the season in Shiga Kogen. This morning, after some rain last night, we have a mix of blue sky and cloud, and it is a bit windy. Fairly chilly, too. While Yokoteyama couldn't quite make it until Sunday 19th, it did well to make it into mid-May in this particular season of 'interesting' snowfall patterns. You can review the archive reports, data, and analysis pages to relive the season at any time. The Yuzawa Now report said something similar last week, but with only very little snow now left in some higher areas, the peak of the winter season now seems a very long time ago. Indeed, many sections of Shiga Kogen closed back at the end of March. And in about six months, we'll be getting excited about the 2024-2025 snow season, and it will all start up again! Hopefully, the upcoming summer heat in Japan won't be too brutal, and come October we'll be hearing forecasts for heavy snow. That's all I've got for now. So we enjoyed some good snowfall yesterday and here is the new snowfall that ski areas are reporting this morning: Okushiga Kogen: 40cm Yakebitaiyama: 30cm Kumanoyu: 20cm With the snow of the last two days, there's a really good new layer of snow across the mountains. That might not be reflected in snow depth data (below), but it's there! And there is more due across the coming few days, too, potentially heavy at times. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It is a cold morning. And there's some snow too. Varied amounts depending on where you are, but I measured 16cm. Yakebitaiyama ski area reports 20cm of fresh snowfall and Kumanoyu is reporting 30cm, which is good to hear. The most so far this season, for sure. Ski area operations seem to be unchanged early on but that might change during the day and I expect more openings to happen tomorrow. Especially if we get more snow by then (we are told to expect it). Sounds good. The information below is manually checked with official sources and updated for every report. Rain is forecast during the day tomorrow, though. Today is going to be the final day of operations for the Kumanoyu area, leaving us with just Yokoteyama/Shibutoge from tomorrow. Over at Yokoteyama, the Number 1 Sky B lift is now closed, so four lifts remaining. With some snow on the roads this morning (lots now gone) and, from what I can tell, there has been 10cm or so on some of the ski runs which is great to hear. It is still chilly this afternoon but we can expect the temps to gradually rise again with some warmth due mid to late week. In some places on mountain, there is apparently as much as 20cm of it! Wow, it almost felt like winter again for a while. We are back to clearer skies and sunshine. In fact, it was a nice day yesterday too, making yesterday a real treat for anyone around. Just spots of that snow still around road areas now, but it is mostly gone. Yakebitaiyama reporting 5cm very early morning and Kumanoyu are also reporting 5cm, and I have measured 4cm. It's not a lot, but it looks great and always welcome. It's also quite cold this morning. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. I have good news to report this morning with fresh snow on the ground. It almost feels like winter again! Yakebitaiyama reported 5cm as of 3am and Kumanoyu were reporting 10cm as of 7am. From what I am seeing, in places I'd say there is up to 10cm, and I just measured 8cm. From what I can see on the webcam, there looks like there is probably more than that over at Okushiga Kogen. Really looks like it is snowing quite heavily at the time of this report. Great stuff! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . We have fresh snow and sunshine early morning. It should be a really fine morning for people making their way out there. In the middle of the night Yakebitaiyama were reporting 20cm of fresh snowfall, and Kumanoyu are reporting 15cm. There's snow on the trees and everywhere is looking beautiful. I have measured just under 20cm and there might be up to 30cm out there in higher elevations. Nice. More sun is due over the coming days, with a general warming again coming next week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I am pleased to report that we do actually have some fresh snow this morning. Early morning (3am) Yakebitaiyama were reporting 0cm, and at 7am Kumanoyu are reporting 3cm. And I can now report 6cm as of 9am, so hopefully we will be getting some more during the day. I am close to Ichinose Family right now, and it is actually snowing quite heavily at the moment. Great to see, of course. It is colder, but not mid-winter cold. Clear skies are due once again from tomorrow.
