Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 35cm
Snowfall at base this season 154cm

Posted on Sunday 22nd December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here.

Snow, snow, snow! Lots of it this morning.

Early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 35cm of fresh and that is what I am recording today, too, as of 9am.

(Unfortunately, this season (so far), Kumanoyu is not reporting a snowfall number like it used to. Hopefully they might get back doing that...)

Anyhow, lots of lovely fresh snowfall around, but some windy conditions too and limited visibility this morning.

Some lifts might be affected by the weather conditions.

It might not let up (for any prolonged period) until Tuesday, so it seems reasonable to expect some big numbers. Still a few individual areas not yet open but perhaps they can by Wednesday, which happens to be Christmas Day.

What a way to be celebrating it!

Snow depths as reported by the ski areas themselves (they often don't change as much as you would think!)

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Shiga Kogen. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
