The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa and an early report this morning because....well, I want to get up there early! To do research for these reports of course. ;) But yes as we were expecting there's blue skies over Nozawa. Some cloud not too far off but over Nozawa it's blue lots of shadows being case by the mountain early on. It is going to be a very fine morning. Since my report yesterday there has been another 5-10cm of snow across the mountain and it today has started off very cold though the sun should take some of the sharpness off that during the day. Still, I'm going to be layering up just in case, don't like cold spoiling a morning. Tomorrow might see sunshine as well though is forecast to be more cloudy than today. Thursday is expected to get slightly warmer and there's some rain lurking on the forecasts as well which isn't something we want to hear. Beyond that we should be back to snow falling come Saturday morning. So for the next few days clearer skies. Sounds good to me, I hope you can enjoy it too. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa where I'm happy to report it is snowing. The resort reports 5cm on upper slopes and since the snow started we have had a dusting and down below and happily avoided the rain that some forecasts were saying might happen. Let's hope that continues, though it is remaining relatively mild and temperature here at base is creeping up to just above zero. I was just reading the Myoko Now report and have the same feelings... this season it just somehow doesn't seem to want to really relentlessly pound down on us like we are used to here in Nozawa. I want some of that! I want lots of that, in fact - can we get some of it today please? Snow does feature for most days on the 6-day forecast right now so we remain hopeful for regular and decent snowfall. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning form Nozawa and there's a good 20cm of fresh on mountain this morning. In fact the resort is reporting 25cm on the lower Nagasaka area with 20cm up top. Both sound good to me and it's great to see that Nozawa-like kind of number*. It was still snowing a bit earlier but has stopped now (perhaps still snowing higher up where visibility seems limited) and that is basically what the forecast and cloud maps have been showing. The forecast also shows some more snowfall due tonight and maybe through tomorrow as well. For the moment though weekend visitors should be happy with the new snow to play in. (* We want more, more, more!!) The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Happy New Year! And it is a snowy start to 2016 with 20cm on fresh snow on the upper slopes since yesterday evening and snow down to the village. The snow is expected to stop during today, perhaps around lunchtime, and then we might get some sunshine later on. But it should be keeping cold. Over the coming days though a bit of a warm up is still forecast of course we hope it stays on the colder side. For now though it's a good New Year morning and I hope you can enjoy it. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa and I am happy to report that it is snowing. Not much more than a dusting down here at base and the resort is reporting 3cm on the upper areas, but most importantly it should be snowing for most of today and then more snow is due later tomorrow going into the weekend. Basically we are expecting snowfall on each of the days going into early next week. It just remains to be seen how much we can get out of it. Forecasts remain promising so let's just hope it all happens... I'm looking forward to the hopefully good news that can report tomorrow morning. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . An improvement today just in time for the start of the weekend. The sun is shining and we have blue though somewhat hazy spring skies above Nozawa. Quite cold though actually and not quite 5 degrees as we approach 9am here at base. The sun should get things warming up though and double digit temperatures expected later. As you can see on the photo today from the lower Karasawa area, the snow is finally starting to make way for the ground to be seen in places. That there's still not that much of that going on on 18th April is impressive. There's still a lot around though and the resort official snow depth for the top Yamabiko area still standing at 260cm. More sunshine is expected tomorrow and warm conditions. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Here we are at the end of another ski season for Nozawa. As I write this, the lifts that remain open up top still have their last day to get through, but at the end of today they'll be able to take a well-deserved break after a long winter season. I remember saying that last season was 'an odd one'. This season one of the main talking points I think was all of the snow that we got in December. Just to remind ourselves, here's the snowfall observed at base in the last two seasons: December 2013: 100cm December 2014: 437cm January 2014: 259cm January 2015: 314cm February 2014: 168cm February 2015: 215cm March 2014: 78cm March 2015: 178cm Take a look at December! Interesting to be reminded that January and February also saw more snow than the previous season, though March last season clearly beat this season. All in all, over 10m of snow down here at base and no doubt quite a lot more than that on the upper areas. Nice! The resort has once again seemed to be busy with a further increase in the number of international guests. I feel I am hearing more and more languages being spoken as well. Happily, the village retains it's charm and hopefully it always will do. This is my last Nozawa Now report of the season. Many thanks for reading them again this season. I hope that you enjoyed reading them and that they were useful as well. The archive reports are always there so you can always go back and reflect on the season and remind yourself of how it all played out which is often fun to do when summer hits and it gets very hot. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Yes! After a dry spell, this is more like it. Snow and some more snow on the mountain. Uenotaira since yesterday morning apparently signed off on a delivery of 48cm of fresh snowfall with nearly 40cm on Yamabiko and a healthly 20cm chunk lower down. And it continues to snow and forecast to the day, perhaps easing off by tomorrow though possibly snow showers through until early weekend. These sudden March snowfalls are always fun. With time running out on winter, we can just hope for as much as possible over the next few days. Quite a few people heading up to the upper slopes I see early on this morning and I can't blame them. I'll be going up there myself soon to see what it's like up there. Pretty good I should imagine! Feels colder as well and about -2 down here, with the resort logging a temperature of -9 up at Yamabiko. So chilly up there, need to get wrapped up good. Limited early morning visibility on the upper slopes but the light snow that is still falling is set to ease this morning and we might even get some clearer skies and sun later on. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Happy New Year from Nozawa Onsen. Ah yes this is a good way to start a year --- 50cm of fresh snow on the ground and across the mountain. Loads of snow. And it's piling up quickly as well right now with snow really coming down from the skies. It's like it's making some kind of statement! If your body can accept any more sake after the celebrations of last night, or if you just want to say Happy New Year with other folk at Nozawa, head up to near the Uenotaira Resthouse Yunomine for 11am. If you can find it of course... visibility is definitely limited for the moment! It's clearly much colder as well this morning. There's a heavy snow warning out for the region at the moment and snow is expected to continue falling for the day and into tomorrow. Brave the conditions though to be rewarded with copious amounts of powder. Lift operations for the New Year. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from Nozawa on this last day of the season. As of 9am there's lots of cloud around but it seems to be getting less with more blue sky; the sun is appearing at times and it will perhaps be a fine day to finish things off. It's always a day of mixed feelings is this last day. You don't want it to finish but it must. And it's a very long season - the first lift started moving on Saturday 30th November, so I make that about 5 months and 1 week. It's time to look back on that long season. I think people would agree in me saying that it has been a bit of an odd one in some ways and definitely not one of the 'classics'. A few bouts of mad Nozawa-like heavy snowfall here and there probably made the overall numbers seem better than the reality of the situation. That reality being that this season snowfall in Nozawa wasn't as consistent as we expect. There were just a few too many prolonged drier periods. Of course that's not to say that there we were struggling for snow cover; we certainly weren't - it just wasn't as 'full-on' as much of the time as we would like. (We are of course guilty of having such high expectations). Still, I have had a few memorable skiing experiences this season that might make it into my Top 10. I'm not in charge of numbers, but looking on with my own eyes I'd say that Nozawa resort has had a very good and busy season. There has been a noticeable increase in the number of international guests this season and I can only see that increasing further. I have had some very fine nights out in the village this season mixing with locals and people from various places around the world. I'd say there has been a great atmosphere going on. I think that most people visiting Nozawa will have enjoyed themselves and go back home with fine memories of their time in Nozawa. From now temperatures will continue to rise and the remaining snow will quite quickly disappear from the upper slopes. It still gets pretty hot in Nozawa in summer, though you can get yourself up on the mountain for much cooler conditions. Last year the resort opened the Gondola mid July for 44 days taking people up there... there's always the roads too for a bit of a drive once the snow has gone.
