The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After all that lovely snow in the report yesterday, there's none being reported this morning. (I feel there was a dusting enough post report yesterday to add 1cm to this report). Anyway, it has been a very fine morning across the region. A cold start and as we approach 12 noon the thermometer outside my place tells me it is still slightly under 0C... it will be rising a bit this afternoon. Maybe a little snow tomorrow, then sun on Thursday, and some good potential for snow again Friday/Saturday. In the meantime, some fine conditions to enjoy. It was a bit windy but I'm guessing we're all more than gnarly enough to deal with that. This morning it is snowing and I have 6cm so far to report. Coming down nicely right now too with limited visibility on the mountain. Lifts seem to be opening as planned. Get wrapped up for today... more sun forecast for tomorrow. • Hakuba Now: Monday 8th January 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 35cm Snowfall at base this season 164cm Posted on Monday 8th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Mornings like this feel a bit overwhelming at times, as I try to get as much info together as possible from all the ski areas. Even at 9:30am there are some gaps in the info available, but this is probably just a good sign that it has snowed... So, yes, it has snowed. And a fair amount too. Here are the headline numbers of new snowfall, as reported by ski areas this morning: Happo: 88cm (!?) at Usagidaira; 15cm at top of Riesen quad (an odd set of numbers, that) Tsugaike: 70cm Hakuba Cortina: 50cm (base), 60cm (top) Hakuba 47: 30cm (base), over 50cm (top) Hakuba Iwatake: 30cm (base), 40cm (top) I have measured 35cm. You get the idea: basically, a lot of fresh snow out there this morning. Brilliant. It looks like the Tree Riding Zone part of Hakuba 47 will be (part) available from today. Most base areas of Happo-one are available again, as is the connection between top and base at Goryu. I suspect (and very much hope) that we might soon be at that stage of the season where all of the ski areas are 'fully open'. Oh yes, the top lifts at Happo-one on hold due to strong winds. Other ski areas seem to be coping. We might get some blue sky and even some sun this afternoon and sun is is also expected tomorrow. Should be amazing. OK I need to get this report posted! Please note it might be lunchtime before I can get my report posted tomorrow. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Operations (scheduled): Most lifts and runs are now open, some Iimori runs closed Top to base ok once again Official snow depth: Upper: 160cm Toomi: 50cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park Operations (scheduled): All scheduled lifts and runs are open (The Line D lift usually only opens when the Gondola is not operating) Tree Riding Zones part open from today New snowfall (reported by ski area): Top: 50cm Base: 30cm Official snow depth: Upper: 160cm Base: 55cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one Operations (scheduled): Most lifts operating and a large part of the ski area is now open, but with restrictions Top lifts on hold at the start of the day due to weather conditions New snowfall (reported by ski area): Kurobishi: ?cm Usagidaira: 88cm (?!) Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 129cm Posted on Sunday 7th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning and greetings from Hakuba. It was a warmish day yesterday, again getting up to +9C in the village. Too warm. Stop it! But, this morning there is fresh snowfall on the mountain. Here's what the ski areas are reporting this morning: Happo: 5-10cm on upper areas Hakuba 47: 10cm on upper areas Hakuba Cortina: 5cm (base), 10cm (upper) Hakuba Iwatake: 1-3cm So, that's nice. Head up to find the funnest fun this morning. I did have a dusting on my car very early this morning, so I feel I can add 1cm to the reports this morning. Perhaps my generosity there will encourage Nature to bring us more. (Yeah, I know...) This morning higher areas are covered in cloud (fog?), though lower down it is quite bright and even a bit of blue sky and sunshine. We are still told to expect snow later and overnight. I have a friend down in western Japan and he says his local ski area is completely bare of snow. Like, none at all. Not even a bit. It sounds like a lot of Japan is experiencing low levels of snow so far this season, particularly on the main Honshu island. So, we should be thankful that we have so much open right now... even if it doesn't quite feel 'full on' yet. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Operations (scheduled): Most lifts and runs are now open, some Iimori runs closed. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. We have a fairly modest amount of fresh snow this morning. Earlier on I had 3-4cm on the top of my car though the snow on the roads around base has largely gone by now. It's a bit wet. There are hints of light blue behind the clouds in some places... perhaps it will clear up. Hakuba Cortina reporting up to 15cm of snowfall in upper areas. Other ski areas are generally reporting 5-10cm of fresh. Sounds like that is about how much we can expect on the runs this morning. • Hakuba Now: Monday 1st January 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 125cm Posted on Monday 1st January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and a very happy new year to everyone. May it be a good one for us all. The 'technical issues', ahem, this morning were solved with a few glasses of water, coffee and an aspirin. (Phew!) Anyway, last year ended with some yucky rain that was, of course, not friendly to our lovely snow. Happily, we got some fresh snow overnight. And while it is not a huge amount around base areas, Hakuba 47 is reporting up to 20cm in upper areas. But Hakuba Cortina wins the 'most snow' prize this morning - they are reporting an impressive 40cm of fresh! That sounds great. :) Visibility seems generally limited on the mountains this morning, but better lower down with blue sky in places. So it's a bit of complicated early morning weather snapshot. Ski area operations also remains quite complicated. It's impossible to comment on everything, but I note the top lifts at Happo-one are on hold at the start of the day and the runs down to the Nakiyama and Kokusai base areas have become unavailable. It's nothing that a large amount of mountain-wide snow storm can't fix. But when will we get that? I wish I knew. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning to you all from Hakuba. Not the most exciting start to New Years Eve with some light rain around lower areas, but perhaps some light snow at higher elevations (it's what Hakuba 47 seems to be saying). Webcams don't seem to show that. We ARE expecting snow overnight tonight and so I am cautiously excited about the prospect of starting 2024 with fresh snowfall. Let us hope we are not let down! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . A fine day yesterday, if a bit windy. A little snow overnight (which has gone now), and no specific snowfall numbers is being reported by the ski areas this morning. It is a mostly cloudy morning. I can see some blue sky away from the mountains too as the fast moving clouds do their thing. Light snow is falling in higher areas too, along with limited visibility on the mountain. It is +1C in the village as 9am approaches. Looking ahead, we have to be prepared for clearer skies and fairly mild conditions over the last few days of the year. • Hakuba Now: Tuesday 26th December 2023

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 13cm Snowfall at base this season 119cm Posted on Tuesday 26th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It has to be a quick and early report this morning, meaning some of the usual data might not have been updated yet (my fault), so I'll leave it off the report today. A nice new layer of 10-15cm fresh snow around base areas, surely more than that at higher elevations (Happo reporting 25cm at the top of the gondola) and some early morning sunshine. While we have quite a lot of cloud around early morning, there's increasingly blue sky and sun too. It feels like it is going to be a very fine and sunny day. And I hope you have a good one. • Hakuba Now: Monday 25th December 2023

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 106cm Posted on Monday 25th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Seasons greetings to all! There has been lots of cloud early this morning as some overnight snow eased off. Happo-one is reporting up to 15cm of fresh snow at the top of the Alpen quad lift. There is some sun coming through my window as I write this and blue sky in some directions too. Night skiing is scheduled to start at Goryu from tomorrow. Side note: Happo-one currently has this on its English 'trail conditions' page: "The snow is melting on the trails! Hakuba Happo-one is now open for the summer season!", along with a whole lot of green season info posted in June. I mention this just as one example of how difficult it sometimes is to collect (and be sure of) the information that ski areas themselves put out there. As someone who is checking such info every morning and trying to be as correct as possible in this report, it seems really crazy that these very popular ski areas don't seem to put more importance on these things. (One some days, it really does makes me wonder why I put the effort in... then I remember, I love doing it, frustrations aside!) Anyway, Happy and indeed Merry Christmas! • Hakuba Now: Sunday 24th December 2023

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 101cm Posted on Sunday 24th December 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Just a little snow down at base since my report yesterday, with some ski areas talking up to 5-10cm of fresh during the day in upper areas. On this cold Christmas Eve morning we have quite a lot of blue sky, some sun and some cloud. It's a very fine morning. I believe all the ski areas in the region are now at least part open with more runs and lifts gradually become available. The many people here at the moment will be thankful for that, though we still need more of the good stuff to get everywhere opening up. Lots of fun to be had, though, and some big queues for the early morning lifts. Look out for Santa-san out on the slopes today! -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Part open Lifts (scheduled): Telecabin gondola Alps Number 1 pair Alps Number 3 pair Toomi quad Toomi Number 1 pair Milky Courses: Panorama Grand Prix Technical Super Champion Dynamic Woody Toomi Soft Cream Powder Snow Sunny Way Official snow depth: Upper: 135cm Toomi: 55cm Notes: You can now slide back down to base from the top area ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park Part open Ski lifts: All lifts (* Line D usually only opens when the Gondola is not operating) Courses: All runs open Tree Riding Zones will open at a later date New snowfall (overnight as reported by ski area): Top: 0cm (reported 5cm yesterday afternoon) Base: 0cm Official snow depth: Upper: 135cm Base: 35cm Notes: The base of Hakuba 47 is open and you can ride back down to base ------------ Hakuba Happo-one Part open Ski lifts (scheduled): Adam Gondola Kokusai Number 1 pair Panorama pair Kokusai Number 3 pair Alpen quad Kurobishi Number 2 quad Skyline Number 2 pair Sakka Kitaone quad (for transport) Courses: Panorama Usagidaira Kurobishi Skyline Riesen Slalom (from noon) New snowfall (reported by ski area): Kurobishi: 10cm Usagidaira: 0cm Top of Alpen quad: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobushi (1680m): 170cm Usagidaira (1400m): 122cm Nakiyama (800m): -cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina Part open Operations (scheduled): 3 lifts and 7 courses Official snow depth: 120cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Part open Operations (scheduled): 3 lifts and 3 courses Official snow depth: 60cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Part open Operations: 7 lifts Official snow depth: Upper: 126cm Base: 10cm Notes: You can now slide down back to base from the top area Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Sunday 24th December 2023 Total snowfall at base so far 101cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 14 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 26cm (23rd December) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 73cm reported on 10 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba.
