Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 366cm Posted on Thursday 22nd February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Mid-season disappointing section. That rain of the last few days has been really annoying, but I was hoping to be able to report fresh snowfall numbers this morning. And while it is now snowing, there's no snowfall numbers being reported by ski areas --- other than 3cm at Usagidaira (Happo-one). As I write this it is actually snowing quite nicely, so hopefully it will continue through the day. I'm guessing that by the time folks get up to the top areas there should be some fresh snow to play with. 'Frozen lift wires' is causing lifts at Happo-one to be late opening this morning. Until we get more fresh snow, some lower runs are going to start being increasingly affected. I will start trying to bring related information to you in these reports over the coming days. Come on snow! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . The clouds cleared up to some extent during the day yesterday giving us some periods of blue sky and some sunshine too. Cool looking cloud, actually. And we got some fresh overnight too. This morning the reported snowfall numbers are varying, ranging from 5-15cm. All added to the list below, of course. I thought the numbers might be larger, actually, but there should be a new layer to play with this morning. And it should be a fine day too. Nice and sunny around base just now. There is a lot of cloud up there still, but I think we are expecting clearer skies. And a clear day tomorrow too. We're going to have to watch out for some warmth tomorrow and Wednesday with a dip in temps due around Friday. Definitely 'interesting', but hopefully we'll get a return to winter and this coming warmth will just be a blip. It's Monday but a national holiday; that means it will probably still be very busy though that should ease off after lunchtime. --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 15cm Official snow depth: Upper: 255cm Toomi: 130cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall (overnight): Upper: 15cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth: Top: 255cm Base: 120cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: Upper: 3-4cm (top) Official snow depth: Top: 225cm Base: 137cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 5cm Usagidaira: 10cm Top of Riesen quad: 5cm (social media) Nakiyama: 5cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 255cm Usagidaira: 205cm Nakiyama: 70cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 10cm Village Side: 10cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 180cm Village Side: 110cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 225cm Jigatake Reported snowfall: 5cm Official snow depth: 100cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 130cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Reported snowfall: 5cm since 'last night' Official snow depth: Upper: 234cm Lower: 66cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 120cm --------------- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far (in upper areas) [The information below originates from the ski areas themselves, it is being checked and updated manually every report from public Hakuba Valley sources] ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 770cm Hakuba 47: 522cm Hakuba Happo-one: 645cm Hakuba Cortina: 571cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 611cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Monday 12th February 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 363cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 39 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 35cm (8th January) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days January 2024 snowfall 187cm reported on 16 days February 2024 snowfall 55cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After the warmth (and rain later on), we have very clearly colder conditions and a little snowfall this morning. Ski areas are reporting up to 5cm on the slopes so there's a modest amount of fresh to play in! (Close to ski area bases it ranges from slight dustings, just over 1cm on the top of my car and around my house). It has been snowing lightly early morning and, while there is even some sun appearing down in the village, visibility on the mountains seems very limited this morning. Wind is an issue too and is affecting some upper ski lifts at the start of the day. The clouds are probably going to clear this morning and it should thankfully remain cold today. (Fast forward to tomorrow: a return to sun and milder temperatures). --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 5cm Official snow depth: Upper: 230cm Toomi: 120cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall (overnight): Upper: 5cm Base: 5cm Official snow depth: Top: 235cm Base: 100cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: Upper: ?cm Official snow depth: Top: 190cm Base: 115cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 0cm Usagidaira: 0cm Top of Riesen quad: 0cm (social media) Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 230cm Usagidaira: 166cm Nakiyama: 50cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 3cm Village Side: 1cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 180cm Village Side: 110cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 200cm Jigatake Reported snowfall: 0cm Official snow depth: 80cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 110cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 203cm Lower: 58cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 80cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Friday 16th February 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 364cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 40 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 35cm (8th January) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days January 2024 snowfall 187cm reported on 16 days February 2024 snowfall 56cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. And this morning, new cm of fresh snow on the ground! Yey! See below for the numbers being reported by ski areas, but they're generally ranging from 10-20cm, with Cortina reporting the most up to 25cm. Hopefully we might get a bit more today. Clearer skies are expected from tomorrow along with those rising temperatures, particularly from Tuesday. The good news on that score is that by Friday temps should be dropping again and all being well there'll be fresh snow too. Anyway, fresh snow to enjoy this morning. It has been clouding over somewhat since then, but there's still blue sky and sunshine. At 11:00am it is Tsugaike is reporting the most snowfall this morning @ 10cm. Other ski areas reporting up to around 4cm on the slopes. Hakuba 47 was yesterday afternoon proclaiming, quote, 'the tree-riding is epic & our groomed runs are perfect'. Well, that sounds like conditions couldn't get any better, doesn't it! Personally, and as much fab fun as I enjoyed yesterday, I feel there's a bit of wiggle room for better conditions. Anyway, enough of the semantics (and marketing messages). It's fun out there, so let's have fun! Oh yes, remember, the Chinese New Year weekend is coming up. A three day weekend is also coming up. • Hakuba Now: Tuesday 6th February 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 32cm Snowfall at base this season 342cm Posted on Tuesday 6th February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. It is a very good morning, too, as we have a nice amount of fresh snow. As you can see from the numbers below, some hard-to-understand looking numbers aside (Hakuba 47 were talking about 20cm late yesterday, have 10cm on their site this morning, but are also saying 20-25cm 'in 12 hours' on social media), ski areas are generally reporting up to 20-30cm of fresh snowfall since yesterday. Here's another interesting number to throw into the mix. The JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) has clocked up 32cm over the last 24 hours at it's measuring point at 703m (village hall)... and I agree! It's interesting to see Jigatake down to the south in Omachi reporting 30cm. It's not often you see that, but then again, it's not often that there's snow in Tokyo like there has been since yesterday. (It was quite funny watching the news on tv last night recommending Tokyo citizens to 'walk like penguins' on the snow/ice. But, seriously, please do take care!) As always, though, let's take a step back before over-thinking: big picture, we have fresh snow, a fair amount of it, and that that is definitely a very good thing! Yey! And what all this means of course is that conditions should be very good this morning and all ski areas are open as planned. Right now it is just around 0C at base, so not particularly cold. We might get a little bit more snow before things clear up (on maybe Thursday or Friday). Enjoy. :) --------------- Ski area information for Tuesday 6th February 2024 Ski areas in the Hakuba region, listed in alphabetical order. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 310cm Posted on Friday 2nd February 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hakuba greetings to you! Well, February started with some rubbish rain (booooo!), but it was snowing later on (hurray!), and there are some modest amounts of snow being reported by ski areas this morning... ranging from 0cm to 10cm. (I get the feeling Goryu might be doing a bit of 'rounding up'!). It was quite windy too, so the snow that was falling was getting blown around and visibility was challenging in places. This morning started cloudy and fairly cold. At 11am it's still cloudy and it looks like there is some light snow falling at higher elevations. Still, some forecasts do say there will be some sun today, and there are in fact some faint hints of blue behind clouds in places right now, so maybe it will start clearing. They also predict quite a lot of sun over the weekend. I predict another busy weekend and I've got my eye on the snow that is forecast Monday/Tuesday. Sorry about being a bit late with some reports this week. Blame my visiting friends. ;) I should get back to a more normal routine from tomorrow. --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 10cm Official snow depth: Upper: 235cm Toomi: 110cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall (overnight): Upper: 5cm Base: 3cm Official snow depth: Top: 240cm Base: 100cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: Upper: 0cm Official snow depth: Top: 180cm Base: 108cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 0cm Usagidaira: 0cm Top of Riesen quad: 3cm (social media) Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 230cm Usagidaira: 145cm Nakiyama: 55cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 0cm Village Side: 0cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 170cm Village Side: 100cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 200cm Jigatake Reported snowfall: 0cm Official snow depth: 90cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 110cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 207cm Lower: 40cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 90cm --------------- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far (in upper areas) [The information below originates from the ski areas themselves, it is being checked and updated manually every report from public Hakuba Valley sources] ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 738cm Hakuba 47: 492cm Hakuba Happo-one: 625cm Hakuba Cortina: 521cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 566cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Friday 2nd February 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 310cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 34 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 35cm (8th January) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days January 2024 snowfall 187cm reported on 16 days February 2024 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . After a cold, snowy and windy day on the mountain yesterday, it feels like it might be a clearer - and less windy - day today. There's still a lot of cloud around, but there's blue sky too and some sunshine. I am hearing some very light snow and wind still noticeable in places too. There's varying amounts of snowfall is being reported by ski areas as you can see below. Looks like we can expect up to around 15cm of fresh on the mountain. Some sun is expected over the weekend. It should be a very fine weekend. I hope some of you reading it can be here to enjoy it. --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 15cm Official snow depth: Upper: 255cm Toomi: 110cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall (overnight): Upper: 10cm (and 10cm reported yesterday) Base: 5cm Official snow depth: Top: 255cm Base: 115cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: Upper: dusting Official snow depth: Top: 240cm Base: 152cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 0cm Usagidaira: 5cm Top of Riesen quad: 0cm (social media) Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 240cm Usagidaira: 155cm Nakiyama: 88cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 5cm Village Side: 5cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 170cm Village Side: 100cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 225cm Jigatake Reported snowfall: 10cm Official snow depth: 120cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 150cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 252cm Lower: 55cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 135cm --------------- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far (in upper areas) [The information below originates from the ski areas themselves, it is being checked and updated manually every report from public Hakuba Valley sources] ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 728cm Hakuba 47: 487cm Hakuba Happo-one: 625cm Hakuba Cortina: 516cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 566cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Friday 26th January 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 308cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 33 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 35cm (8th January) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days January 2024 snowfall 187cm reported on 16 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 25cm Snowfall at base this season 303cm Posted on Thursday 25th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. And it's another cold morning when I can tell you about ski areas reporting up to 40cm of fresh snowfall. This is very good! And there will be more to report tomorrow as it is snowing nicely now and should continue through the day. Yey!! Visibility out there is very limited in places and wind is affecting some upper lifts (for example, at Happo-one and Goryu/47) at the start of the day. I wonder if we might get to see some clearer skies sometime during the day tomorrow; Saturday looks likely to be clearer. Whatever, snow conditions should be excellent. Exciting times, but always remember to take care out there. --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 40cm Official snow depth: Upper: 250cm Toomi: 110cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall (overnight): Upper: 25cm (and 15cm yesterday pm) Base: 20cm Official snow depth: Top: 250cm Base: 110cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: Upper: 20-25cm (12 hours) Official snow depth: Top: 220cm Base: 150cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 40cm Usagidaira: 19cm Top of Riesen quad: 38cm (social media) Nakiyama: 20cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 280cm Usagidaira: 189cm Nakiyama: 90cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 20cm Village Side: 20cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 170cm Village Side: 100cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 225cm Jigatake Reported snowfall: 25cm Official snow depth: 110cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 100cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 251cm Lower: 55cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 90cm --------------- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far (in upper areas) [The information below originates from the ski areas themselves, it is being checked and updated manually every report from public Hakuba Valley sources] ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 713cm Hakuba 47: 477cm Hakuba Happo-one: 625cm Hakuba Cortina: 491cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 565cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Thursday 25th January 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 303cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 32 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 35cm (8th January) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days January 2024 snowfall 182cm reported on 15 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 278cm Posted on Wednesday 24th January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Happy snow news! After some blue sky during the day yesterday, the snow clouds finally did move in overnight and gave us some of their goodness. You can see the numbers in the list below (they are updated every day, of course), but this morning ski areas are reporting up to 40cm of fresh snowfall on upper areas, more like 15-20cm in lower areas. I have myself measured 22cm. Tsugaike are reporting up to 60cm of fresh in some wind blown areas. Oh yes. And it's still snowing and we are due snow through tomorrow. Limited visibility this morning. Enjoy, but take care folks. Extra layer today, too, as it's cold! --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 40cm Official snow depth: Upper: 225cm Toomi: 115cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall (overnight): Upper: 40cm Base: 20cm Official snow depth: Top: 225cm Base: 90cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: Upper: 30-35cm (12 hours) Official snow depth: Top: 188cm Base: 120cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 40cm Usagidaira: 31cm Top of Riesen quad: 30cm (social media) Nakiyama: 15cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 240cm Usagidaira: 170cm Nakiyama: 60cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 20cm Village Side: 20cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 170cm Village Side: 100cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 200cm Jigatake Reported snowfall: 15cm Official snow depth: 90cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 100cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 232cm Lower: 49cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 90cm --------------- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far (in upper areas) [The information below originates from the ski areas themselves, it is being checked and updated manually every report from public Hakuba Valley sources] ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 673cm Hakuba 47: 452cm Hakuba Happo-one: 585cm Hakuba Cortina: 461cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 515cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Wednesday 24th January 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 278cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 31 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 35cm (8th January) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days January 2024 snowfall 157cm reported on 14 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. • Hakuba Now: Sunday 21st January 2024

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 254cm Posted on Sunday 21st January 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Yesterday we did get some snow on the mountain and this morning ski areas are mostly reporting up to 10cm (Happo-one is going with 20cm at Kurobishi). It's not the fluffiest of light dry snow, but definitely better than rain, for sure. This morning we have had some light (wet) snow falling around base areas, though it's more like rain away from those areas. While it probably won't amount to much in terms of new cm, today we can hope that it will just continue being snow... and not rain. OK, so let's fast forward to Tuesday. Temperatures are set to drop back down to normal mid-winter and we are due good amounts of snow, possibly heavy snow, through until Thursday. Just how that actually pans out, we will have to see, but it looks promising. --------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu Reported snowfall: Upper: 10cm Official snow depth: Upper: 220cm Toomi: 110cm Hakuba 47 Reported snowfall (overnight): Upper: 10cm Base: 5cm Official snow depth: Top: 220cm Base: 90cm Hakuba Cortina Reported snowfall: Upper: ?cm Official snow depth: Top: 185cm Base: 105cm Hakuba Happo-one Reported snowfall: Kurobishi: 20cm Usagidaira: 12cm Top of Riesen quad: 10cm (social media) Nakiyama: 0cm Official snow depth: Kurobishi: 230cm Usagidaira: 155cm Nakiyama: 55cm Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Reported snowfall: Mountain Side: 20cm Village Side: 0cm Official snow depth: Mountain Side: 160cm Village Side: 100cm Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 190cm Jigatake Reported snowfall: 10cm Official snow depth: 80cm Kashimayari Official snow depth: 100cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 222cm Lower: 37cm White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 75cm --------------- Total snowfall accumulation this season so far (in upper areas) [The information below originates from the ski areas themselves, it is being checked and updated manually every report from public Hakuba Valley sources] ABLE Hakuba Goryu: 633cm Hakuba 47: 412cm Hakuba Happo-one: 545cm Hakuba Cortina: 426cm Tsugaike Mountain Resort: 455cm Hakuba Now 2023-2024 season Data as Sunday 21st January 2024 Total snowfall at base so far 254cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 30 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 35cm (8th January) November 2023 snowfall 28cm reported on 4 days December 2023 snowfall 93cm reported on 13 days January 2024 snowfall 133cm reported on 13 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba.
