Looks like one sunny day, and then some more tomorrow and Thursday. And then a very warm and sunny weekend coming up! So I have nothing to rant about just now. Snow; good. Sky; blue. - Niseko Now: Tuesday 10th February 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 750cm Good... afternoon! Actually, I am writing this at my usual time, but I have heard that the report might not actually appear until around lunchtime due to some technical something or other this morning. (Note: information from 8:30am, images will be added from the time of posting). With all that out of the way, it looks like it will be a nice day today. The sun is out right now with a mix of cloud and blue sky. Still cold, but doesn't feel as cold this morning. Hopefully we might get some decent snow tomorrow, particularly as it looks like we are going to experience a mild patch around the coming weekend. Tomorrow is a national holiday in Japan, so the number of Japanese nationals in Niseko might double to around 10. Just kidding!!! ;) ------------------------------------ Niseko Avalanche Report Moiwa Base -6°C, 10cm snowfall, calm. Moiwa 800m -7.2°C, WNW 7.2m/s, wind slab development subsided. Kamui Cape WSW 6m/s, 1019hPa, 1.5m waves. The isobaric spacing has widened, and both sea and mountain are calm. Due to yesterday’s west winds, cornices and wind slabs have developed on the mountain. Impact tests show that the upper 30cm fractured, while the layers below are consolidated and stable for at least another 100cm. The overall avalanche risk is low. Gates are expected to open; follow the ski patrol instructions. Areas above 700m, including within the trees, have been reset by the wind. Watch out for tree collisions. This information is issued to prevent accidents outside the resort boundaries. Niseko respects the freedom of every rider, but that freedom comes with the responsibility to follow the rules. Avalanches are a natural phenomenon; if no people are present, no accident occurs. Never enter strictly prohibited areas. If habitual violations are ignored, an accident will inevitably occur. Beacons are not mandatory, but having one can save your or your companion’s life. Keep it switched on. Many dangers besides avalanches lurk in the mountains. Do not be overconfident and ski with consideration for others. Stay alert for sudden weather changes. It was a really cold start to the morning, but we are heading into low positive C temps this afternoon. Tomorrow it will hopefully be snowing again. If not, we might well get rain. So let's hope it keeps on the colder side and we get the snow down to base. Beyond that we should expect some mild conditions over the coming weekend. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Madarao region of Nagano New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 641cm Posted on Monday 9th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Madarao. The ski area is this morning reporting 15cm, and that's my measurement too. It looks like areas just to the north got much more. Don't be surprised to see (for example) the number being reported from nearby Myoko being larger. It seems to be a pattern this season that areas to the north across over to Tokamachi in Niigata getting more than us/more than usual. Snowy clouds have eased off and there are hints of blue sky in places. Cold out there. But lots of fun to be had. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 40cm Snowfall at base this season 607cm Posted on Monday 9th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. It's a cold and snowy and quite windy morning. The wind is affecting some lifts around the region but most ski areas seem to be opening. Yakebitaiyama very early morning reporting 30cm. That was 6 hours ago. Okushiga Kogen was earlier reporting 40cm. With the wind blowing the light snow around it is one of those mornings where it is difficult to pin a number, but looking at my measuring points, I think todays report should be 40cm. There is probably more in places. Tomorrow should be calmer and clearer. We might get some clear skies. It felt quite windy too just before when I was outside. If caught, you will be banned from using the resort in the future. This place is a ski resort, and all users must follow the regulations. The Niseko Rules are strict with those who violate it. Based on observations, the avalanche risk is low. Nothing is certain in this sport. Do not be overconfident. Only caution prevents accidents. There was someone who lined up at the gate without any gear, didn’t know where they were, and ended up at Goshiki Onsen. The riding skill is not the only requirement. Niseko permits out-of-bounds skiing, but the premise is that you are not ignorant, reckless, or lacking common sense. Do not cut below cornices or across knolls. These can sometimes trigger avalanches. There are many people in the valleys below you, please be considerate of others. Stay alert for sudden weather changes. Have a great day. - Hakuba Now: Monday 9th February 2026
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 9cm Snowfall at base this season 307cm Posted on Monday 9th February 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Snow clouds moved in yesterday after that fine start and we have fresh snow to play in this morning. Snowfall since yesterday ranking time: Tsugaike: 20cm Hakuba Cortina: 20cm Hakuba 47: 10-15cm Hakuba Goryu: 10cm Happo-one: 10cm (Riesen) It is a largely cloudy but wind is noticeable and it is affecting some lifts (you guessed it... at Happo-one). I really hope the new gondola they have planned will be more weather-resistant. We expect clearer skies as the day progresses - indeed that seems to have started as it is quite bright now - and perhaps tomorrow too; then back to some more fresh snowfall on Wednesday. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Top: 10cm Official snow depth: Top: 295cm Top: 125cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park New snowfall (reported as 'todays snowfall'; implies overnight rather than 24 hrs): Top: 15cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth: Top: 310cm Base: 140cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Top: 10cm Official snow depth: Top: 320cm Base: 180cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Kurobishi (1680m): ?cm Usagidaira (1400m): ?cm Nakiyama (800m): ?cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Kurobishi (1680m): 300cm Usagidaira (1400m): 112cm Nakiyama (800m): 70cm ------------ Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Official snow depth: 245cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: 220cm ------------ Jigatake Official snow depth: 90cm ------------ Kashimayari Skijo Family Park Official snow depth: 120cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth: Upper: 241cm Base: 80cm ------------ White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: 145cm Hakuba Now 2025-2026 season Data as Monday 9th February 2026 Total snowfall at base so far 307cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 41 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 24cm (on 25th January) November 2025 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2025 snowfall 98cm reported on 12 days January 2026 snowfall 181cm reported on 22 days February 2026 snowfall 26cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba.
