Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 6cm
Snowfall at base this season 744cm

After that clearer start yesterday, this morning we have another cold and snowy start.

10-15cm being reported by ski areas in top areas.

It felt quite windy too just before when I was outside.

Lifts all seem to be planning on moving this morning and it actually seems to be getting brighter with the sun trying to break through in places as I am about to put this report online.

That's all I got this morning! I hope you have a fine day.

North winds are strong aloft, and the operation of top the chairlifts is TBD until the wind shifts. Gates are scheduled to open, but follow the instructions of the ski patrol. Skiing in the three strictly prohibited areas seems to have become the norm. If caught, you will be banned from using the resort in the future. This place is a ski resort, and all users must follow the regulations. The Niseko Rules are strict with those who violate it. Based on observations, the avalanche risk is low. Nothing is certain in this sport. Do not be overconfident. Only caution prevents accidents. There was someone who lined up at the gate without any gear, didn’t know where they were, and ended up at Goshiki Onsen. The riding skill is not the only requirement. Niseko permits out-of-bounds skiing, but the premise is that you are not ignorant, reckless, or lacking common sense. Do not cut below cornices or across knolls. These can sometimes trigger avalanches. There are many people in the valleys below you, please be considerate of others. Stay alert for sudden weather changes. Have a great day. Is your beacon switched on?

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
