The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Today in Nozawa Onsen we have overcast conditions and passing light snow showers. It will be fast and icy until we receive a more significant dump of snow, as we only had a dusting overnight. You know you are a good skier or boarder if you can hold a carve on days like today as yesterdays rain combined with an overnight snap freeze will result in sheet ice conditions. The resort is reporting just 1-3cm of snowfall since 3pm yesterday. Yesterday was good in the morning. The top lifts and gondola were on wind hold to 11am, but when they opened riders were greeted with a decent depth of fresh snow and partly cloudy conditions up top. A surprisingly fun morning to be had for those who were patient. Following that rain moved in during the afternoon spoiling the nice conditions and turning the snow to glue in most areas. However the mountain quickly emptied as people escaped indoors, which resulted in some of the most un-crowded slopes seen so far this season. There should be no significant snow falls today, however from tomorrow we expect persistent snow showers for most of the week, with a clear day in between on Thursday. A significant dump looks possible around Sunday. Still a long way off, so likely to chop and change. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Snow from the dump over the last few days is still in excellent quality thanks to persisting cold temperatures, and if you know where to look there are fresh tracks on offer. It should be another good days riding... if you can avoid the crowds. High crowd levels this long weekend are causing some long lift lines... plan good to avoid. It's certainly busy out there and a testament to the popularity of Nozawa. It’s partly cloudy at the moment but generally nice blue skies and we expect clouds and snow showers to return by later in the afternoon. No new snow to report. Yesterday was a great day on the mountain, hardly a frown on the hill. Waiting for lifts aside! Deep fresh powder was on offer through the trees. The snow was so deep that some of the classic tree runs around Yamabiko were not steep enough to maintain forward momentum. Oh the problems we face! That icy base layer which has been hanging around is now less of a concern, gradually getting buried. As so often happens the snow that was expected tonight seems to have been pushed back a little. We now expect the heaviest period of snowfalls to occur on Monday morning and to last all day. Should be a cold day too. Following that light snow showers should continue till Wednesday when we expect clear skies to return. All in all a decent week for snowfall looks likely. Tomorrow is a holiday and so it will still be busy. Probably less than today but still a lot of people probably taking advantage of the long weekend. As we get into the afternoon people will start making their way back home and so it should get quieter. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Wow, what a day it was yesterday! We had some of the deepest powder of the season as heavy snowfalls continued all day. Even with the holiday crowds (which thinned out in the afternoon) it was still possible to find fresh tracks through the trees all day. Areas which were tracked in the morning quickly filled in with fresh snow and within hours up for grabs again. It’s safe to say that yesterday was one of the best days of the season so far. Yesterday also saw some of the most unstable conditions this year, with slides occurring on even more moderate slopes. Many areas were simply too dangerous too ski, even with the necessary gear and experience, especially the backcountry. One skier broke an avalanche on a side country run which resulted in serious injuries. It is better to avoid certain areas on days like yesterday and live to ski another day. Today it looks like the snow clouds have moved on for the time being at least. Snow continued well after last lifts yesterday adding 15cm of cover; there should be more than a few very deep fresh tracks on offer today. The total snowfall from this storm is now 80cm and avalanche conditions remain very high. Long weekend crowds moved on yesterday afternoon so the mountain will feel very quite indeed. As the forecast stands, we should see further snowfalls tonight and tomorrow morning before a partly cloudy day on Thursday. Friday should see building snow showers and another solid dump is looking likely on Friday night into Saturday. Enjoy your day. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . What a day we have in Nozawa Onsen! If you ignore the long weekend crowds, this is pretty much as good as it gets. A massive 40cm has been recorded up top since last lifts yesterday, with 15cm down in the village. Heavy clouds have moved on and we currently have sun and partly cloudy conditions. On and off piste conditions should be outstanding, but unavoidably crowded. Avalanche conditions are very high off-piste with an icy base layer... take necessary equipment and have experience when venturing into the backcountry. And never ski there alone. Yesterday was an excellent day in Nozawa. We had heavy snow showers continue all day and with the minimal crowds fresh tracks were on offer right into the afternoon. The snow was so heavy at times that tracks were completely erased within a couple of hours, very nice! Temperatures up high were extremely cold and the wind made it feel even colder. Those who braved the conditions were rewarded with super dry powder that Nozawa is renowned for. The forecast is still looking promising looking ahead. Light snow showers should recommence tomorrow, grading to heavy by last lifts. Sunday night and Monday morning should dump, we expect quite a bit of snow during this time. Following that light snow showers and cold temperatures should persist till Wednesday. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . An early report this morning. We are greeted with heavy snow and at least 20cm of fresh powder in Nozawa Onsen. Woohoo! It is going to be a good day. Yesterday was the most crowded day of the season so far, but the holiday vibe on the mountain made up for the crowds. The Gondola and Yamabiko were the busiest sections, especially in the morning. However it was still possible to escape the crowds and venture to the less known areas of the resort. It was a sunny and partly cloudy day yesterday; a good day for exploring new runs. The snow remained in great shape thanks to cold temperatures. Avalanche risk is higher than normal but improving. We expect heavy snow to continue for the time being, until this afternoon accompanied by fresh NW winds. Tomorrow should see mixed conditions; partly cloudy early grading to snow showers during the afternoon. Wednesday should see similar conditions before clearing to fine weather on Thursday. On the long range forecast another big dump is looking possible/likely next weekend. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It has dumped royally overnight here in Nozawa Onsen. Since last lifts yesterday we have had 45cm of fresh snowfall up top on the mountain. Walking through the village last night, the heated streets were no match at all for the intense snowfalls and by 10pm about 5cm had settled on said streets. In Nozawa at the moment we have some partly cloudy conditions and light snow flurries passing through which should continue for most of the day, adding to that new snow. It's a cold -6 degrees and the resort is reporting a temperature of -12 in the Yamabiko area. It was windy about town last night and this morning so look for windblown powder natural features on offer about the resort today. A classic Nozawa powder day today, and definitely not a day to forget the warm gear, fat planks or powder board. Yesterday saw overcast skies and light snow flurries persist for most of the day. Late in the afternoon an intense fog moved over the resort, greatly limiting visibility. There were still more than a few powder stashes about the resort, especially during the afternoon; the trees were the place to be. Groomed runs were in excellent form all day as well. The forecast looks excellent at the moment. After today’s snowfalls we expect a clear day tomorrow. Monday we should see a brief warm spell before an extensive period of cold weather and snowfalls. This will be caused by a classic winter Siberian high pressure system that will result in NW winds needed for snow in the region. Snow should continue from Monday night till Friday based on the current projections. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Seems that today is the first day in a while where there has been no overnight snowfalls on the mountain. Perhaps the groomed runs will be the pick of the bunch this morning with firm, fast and clean conditions. Tree runs will remain mostly tracked out until we receive fresh snow - which is expected tonight. It is a cloudy and grey start to the day. Yesterday was good early, but during the afternoon the sun warmed the snow almost to slush in all but North facing or high altitude areas. Nevertheless, that did not stop riders from enjoying themselves of course. It looks like we have a very interesting week ahead in Nozawa Onsen if you are a skier or boarder. In the next five days we expect two solid dumps of fresh snow. Snow should commence later this afternoon, building in intensity. It's looking like we may receive around 20-30cm at least overnight. Tomorrow, snowfalls and moderately strong winds should continue for the day. Hopefully not enough to affect lift operations on the mountain. Sunday should temporarily clear before some marginal conditions pass through on Monday. The freezing level is forecast to sit at around 1000m, so we will see rain on the lower half of the mountain but snow up top. Monday night the temperature will drop and a nice sized dump is expected. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It should be another good day here in Nozawa Onsen. We have had another fresh top up of snow, 12cm was recorded up high, providing fresh tracks for the day. No new snow reported from the resort on lower slopes and none at village level. The snow pack condensed somewhat yesterday and so avalanche conditions have improved. At the moment we have some partly cloudy conditions with possibility of further snow showers rolling through this afternoon. There are strong winds about the peaks so take an extra layer if you’re heading up the hill. Lift operations don't seem to be affected at the time of writing. Yesterday was a brilliant day. Clear weather and good visibility inspired confidence in the deep powder snow; it was a good day to get out and explore vast untracked areas. The snow remained in top notch condition during the morning, but became slushy on south facing slopes during the afternoon thanks to the sun. Looking at the current forecasts we should expect a clear day tomorrow followed by increasing snowfalls on Friday. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Looks like we have had a classic powder delivery overnight here in Nozawa Onsen. Since last lifts yesterday we have had over 30cm fall across the resort and it is still falling as of 7:30am. Looks like today is going to be one of those days to be up there. Yesterday was an unusual day in Nozawa. We had beautiful blue sky in the morning, hardly a cloud in the sky. This continued until about 2pm when intense snow showers appeared almost out of know where and quickly engulfed the resort. Strong wind gusts were recorded along with a dramatic temperature drop; a classic frontal system. The snow quality on offer yesterday was simply excellent and the distinct lack of crowds meant it was relatively easy to find untracked powder fields all day long. An almost perfect winters day for skiing and boarding in Nozawa overall. According to the current model predictions we should expect snow to continue for the rest of today. Tomorrow we should see snow showers and occasional periods of blue sky pass across the mountains before intensifying heavy snows move over Nozawa on Friday night. This should produce the goods with excellent conditions expected on Saturday morning. Sunday should see another bout of heavy snows adding to the accumulated total for this extended period of winter weather. We still don't expect a clearing trend to occur until around Tuesday next week. All sounds good! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . A bit of a surprise bluebird day here in Nozawa Onsen. Combined with 10cm of overnight falls across the resort and small weekday crowds it should be an good day for skiing and boarding. We do expect snow showers to move across the region once again anytime soon so make the most of the conditions whilst they last. Very cold overnight temperatures mean the snow will be to notch when it comes to quality and the groomed runs will be fast early. Yesterday was a nice day on the hill. We saw light snow flurries continue all day. Up top early saw the prime conditions before becoming tracked out. The lower half of the mountain was dust on crust skiing with an icy base so the top half was definitely the place to be. Tomorrow we should see snow showers continue. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We have a partly cloudy bluebird morning with a fresh top up of powder - 15cm of snow across the mountain. It looks like it will be another perfect day to get up the hill for a ride. The trees and ungroomed runs will have been best early. Once these have become tracked out head for the groomers or your favorite secret tree run to score yet more fresh pow. We should expect snow showers to move across the region once more this afternoon. Tonight we expect a substantial dump to occur. Woohoo! Yesterday was one of the days of the season in Nozawa. Super dry deep powder was on offer through the morning; most places were at least waist deep. Light winds and good visibility made riding extremely enjoyable. To top it all off crowds were not an issue whatsoever. Almost with there were more people about. In the afternoon the sun made an appearance and the powder began to settle improving accessibility for some areas. South facing slopes exposed to the afternoon sun became heavy but shaded gullies remained epic. We are about halfway through this extended snowfall period. As alluded to earlier we expect a very solid dump to occur tonight. Based on current weather model predictions we could see at least 30cm fall off a moist NW airstream, probably more. Light snow will continue on Saturday before another period of moderate to heavy snowfalls on Sunday. We also should see some stronger winds during this time. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . There is moderate snow falling in the village here in Nozawa Onsen this morning. It remained clear for most of last night and everyone subsequently went to bed not expecting too much in the morning. However, in typical Nozawa style we have been surprised with a 30cm overnight fall. Skiing and boarding across the resort today will be good with cold temperatures. Visibility will be a bit limited, especially up high and there are strong winds about the peaks. Head for the trees to seek out improved definition as the light is very flat. Weekend crowds will track out most obvious areas fast so best get up there early. It's an early report today but lifts on the mountain may well be affected today, especially upper areas. Yesterday was yet another great day on the mountain. The Nozawa Onsen snow festival is on this weekend so whilst it is more crowded than usual if you skied the lower areas first up, then moved high, lift lines were easy to avoid. We saw mixed weather conditions yesterday. The perfect magic foot of powder brought excellent skiing early, especially with clearing partly cloudy skies offering good visibility. After some sun we saw a couple more light snow showers in the afternoon before clearing once more. We should see snow showers continue the remainder of today and we even expect light snows tomorrow morning. On Tuesday we still expect a beautiful clear day.
