Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 90cm
Snowfall at base this season 201cm

Posted on Sunday 14th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

This would have been a nice, early report if it weren't for the (dramatic pause, please) nearly one meter of snow that fell overnight.

Thanks to my highly sensitive testing methods - ruler on the leg up to the snow level point, discovered as the snowthrower cut through the drifts - I found 95cm of snow on the driveway. Some from yesterday was there; let's say 90cm of fresh.

And it's still snowing.

Looks like we're getting 2cm or more every hour.

Traffic will be terrible, especially along the coast with the north wind picking up right now. But that's nothing, when it looks so great (and with skiing to do soon....)

Akakura Onsen:

160cm, -1/-3°

Kumado No. 1, 4, 5 lifts

Myoko Suginohara:

150cm, -3/-6°

Gondola only, today, then back next weekend

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Myoko. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
