Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 1cm

Posted on Friday 5th December 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Here it comes....

Things are white outside at the moment. Still some grass poking through around the house, but the weather report is for possible heavy snow along the Japan Sea coast in the Hokuriku area. Meaning us. National broadcaster NHK just said there might be 60cm in some mountain areas. That would start getting us set up!

First day below zero; first day to use the yellow, lined gloves that are the sign of a local (and they make a great gift).

Hope to have news of lots of wet stuff tomorrow.

Official opening dates:

Akakura Onsen and Akakura Kanko: December 20

All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Myoko. The 'new snowfall' number represents the amount of snow measured since the previous report. All opinions are those of the individual reporters. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report.
