Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 704cm Posted on Saturday 14th March 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Just a dusting of snow overnight but clear skies this morning and the sun out from early on. Very cold though which is good and should keep conditions really good for today. Over the coming week the wider region is expecting a lot of sunshine and warmer temperatures - bring sunscreen as that spring sunshine can get strong. Temperatures going to start exploring positive numbers and down in the valley it should get especially warm. Today sees the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line from Nagano, the nearest station to Shiga Kogen being Iiyama. While it may not directly affect Shiga Kogen that much, the Iiyama station will certainly make this region - including Madarao, Myoko, Nozawa etc - seem easier to get to. There are different opinions as to how much of an affect it will have, I suppose we'll just have to see how things turn out. After a run of warmer conditions and some rain, yesterday got colder and snow started falling from the evening leaving us with 5-10cm of fresh snow on the ground this morning. There was 7cm of snow on my car and it felt great to have to wipe it all off. Still snowing now too, lightly. Not enough to hide the icy conditions underneath of course, but... I'll take it! We might get some more cm as well before the day ends. Tomorrow the clouds should ease off and then before the weekend it will probably start to get a bit warmer once again. It was sunny again this morning and quite mild, and there's was more cloud around. It has quickly got more cloudy this morning. We might even get a bit more snow. Tomorrow should be warm and sunny and perhaps more of that on Sunday too before we have rain forecast for Monday. Some news this morning about the opening of the section of Route 292 that connects Shiga Kogen with Gunma Prefecture. It gets buried in large amounts of snow during the winter months of course and earlier this month diggers were out there starting to carve out the road. They plan to have that section of road open from 10am on Friday 24th April, so a week from today. Once that is open, you can get to Shiga Kogen from the south via Kusatsu. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 16cm Posted on Friday 4th December 2015 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . I'm pleased to be able to report the first real decent snowfall of the season here in Shiga Kogen. It was raining until last night but we can soon forget that as there is now up to 10cm on the ground in places now and with snow still coming down now and - fingers crossed - for the rest of today and into tomorrow. There's clearer weather on the forecast beyond tomorrow so this isn't a prolonged storm by the looks. However if there's enough deposited today, we can expect more lifts to be operating come tomorrow. As things stand it's still just a small part of Kumanoyu open. I'll do my best to bring you any and all news in my report tomorrow morning. Resort areas that are currently open: The Kumanoyu area has its Number 2 pair lifts operating and the 600m Number 2 beginner course open.
