The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning everyone. Today (Sunday 23rd April) is the last day of the season at Geto Kogen. It's sunny with some cloud. It felt like spring arrived early this year, but if you look at the stats the ski area still reported an impressive 1820cm of snowfall this season. It's hard to complain about that! After all the disruption due to covid, it has happily felt much more like a normal season this time round. And not only with local visitors, but people also started to come back from overseas too. No doubt that trend will continue next season. If you visited this season, I hope you loved it here. When on form, it is an amazing place! SnowJapan will be posting an end-of-season message after Golden Week (on all the Now reports). That's it from Geto Kogen for this season. Hirafu has been open, though with the gondola on low speed setting. Less and less snow as the days go on now. No 'we must close early' kind of announcement so far, though Hirafu are mentioning how the snow is increasingly patchy. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Yikes. Yesterday was just way too warm with temps in the 20s - even higher on the mountains. Hakuba 47 were reporting a temperature of 22C at 1450m (!). Will the ski areas be able to remain open until the end of Golden Week? We shall see. It's always interesting to see the huge efforts ski areas put into remaining open - perhaps some more than others. Otsukaresama, to everyone involved in the efforts. This morning is much cooler (though still 12C) and visibility is limited in many of the areas that remain open, even though it is clearer down at base. It is still windy this morning but it's trying hard to snow rather than rain, though it might be borderline during the day with more rain due tomorrow. From today, just the Number 1 Gondola lift is operating until the end of the season. More cloud and possibly some rain is due over the weekend. Let's hope we can keep the latter to a minimum. Some people asked if the ski areas will be able to open until the planned closing date of 7th May. No word yet from either of the two ski areas that remain open on that, and I'll let you know if and when there are any announcements. Snow has been melting from the lower area of Hanazono quite quickly now. There's also a big digger machine transporting gondola cabins to their resting place. (Presumably. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Well, well, well! Here we are at this late stage and there has been some fresh snowfall... even down to base! Here is what ski areas are reporting, in order of sugoi-ness: Hakuba Happo-one (Kurobishi, 1680m): 30cm (!) Hakuba Happo-one (Usagidaira, 1400m): 16cm Hakuba Goryu: 15cm Hakuba 47: 10cm Sugoi!!! The dusting+ that we have seen around base areas will surely quickly disappear this morning, the layer of soft snow higher up should be super fun to check out. We have blue skies and it is a fine morning. But... Unfortunately, some quite strong wind is also an issue this morning and affecting ski area lifts. A confusing lift situation as I write this and ski areas try to deal with it, so if you are here do check before going out. Hopefully they will be able to get going... The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko. It's not great weather this morning with a lot of fog around as well as the rain, and some wind too. The United website shows all lifts closed right now, but I am currently in Hanazono and I can see people getting on the lift and people skiing down the slope. I'm not sure what is going on there, some kind of website hiccup. In ski area news, Annupuri have decided to open their Dream quad at base until Sunday. There are now just a few more days now for the Hanazono, Village and Moiwa ski areas. From Monday, we should be down to just Hirafu and Annupuri remaining open. We may still have quite a while to go, but it sure feels like we are in the last part of the season. Gives everything a bit of a 'chill' feel which can certainly be appealing.
