Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 101cm

Posted on Wednesday 29th November 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here

I am happy to report that after the rain yesterday, it feels much colder this morning, and it is snowing and quite windy too. As of just before 9am, I have another 5cm of fresh snowfall to report to you. There should be more over the next few days, hopefully, quite a lot more!

As I write this, it looks like it is snowing heavily at Hanazono, though it is less so here and there is even a little sunshine further away from the ski area bases.

OK, so Niseko Village hopes to open on Friday (the day after tomorrow!), with the other ski areas following on Saturday. I will let you know when there are any announcements! The concerned people are probably looking at forecasts, looking outside the window, talking to their colder colleagues checking the mountain and, most importantly, thoughtfully stroking their chins (with suitably serious expressions) as they ponder their decisions.

Let us ponder.
