Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 23cm Snowfall at base this season 595cm Posted on Wednesday 13th March 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . This morning Nozawa Onsen is saying that there's a whopping 45cm of snowfall up on the top areas! (Checks calendar, yes it's almost mid-March). What's more, it's not just a 'snowfall at the top of the mountain' kind of pattern that we increasingly get towards the end of a season. We have had a good new layer down to base and in the village too. JMA reporting 17cm (up to 9am), the ski area reporting 20-30cm, and my measurement is 23cm. Wind might have been an issue today but at the time of this report the gondolas are moving and all areas of the mountain are open as planned. Excellent. I reckon tomorrow might be one of those days when it's a good idea to take a holiday. Clearer skies are forecast (and it will be mild). Friday too. Weekly forecasts tell us that there's more snow incoming next week. The ski area has reported another 20-30cm since yesterday afternoon - and that is not including what they reported during the day (I missed that, sorry).
