The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Morning from Hakuba. Cold day yesterday with spells of sunshine but lots of cloud remaining over the region. It's a cold start to today as well, 5cm on the ground outside my place and more snow reported from resorts around the valley. (Well done Cortina on up to 40cm once again!) It's windy out there this morning which is affecting some of the lifts at resorts. I have tried to add the latest as of 9:30am to the various resort info areas below. Changing conditions are expected today as the snow eases off and perhaps the skies clear somewhat. Hopefully the wind will ease as well. Visibility still limited higher up but in lower areas and back from the mountains there's already some blue sky to see. Sun likely tomorrow and Monday and it should not be as cold. --- Someone sent in a mail to SnowJapan asking about when the reports are posted. The answer to that is that they are posted as early as possible each day. Or should I say, as early as possible given the circumstances. Those circumstances being: a) it takes quite a bit of time each morning to gather and check all of the information required b) some of the required information is not posted early by the resorts themselves and c) I am human! No doubt many who are actually in Hakuba and wanting an early start will be eagerly looking out of the window at 7am and be out on the lifts before the report is posted, which is fine. Better being on the mountain than in front of a computer! I don't know the full details but I believe that the considerable readership of the daily Now reports on SnowJapan come from all over the world. Think of them more as an ongoing commentary of the season than an early morning pre-ski report. I hope that explains it a bit, gambarimasu. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Around 10cm of fresh snow being reported from around the resorts this morning in Hakuba. Just a slight wind and mixed conditions early on with a lots of cloud. There's blue sky behind them there clouds though and there are glimpses of those to be seen at times. Depends on where you are. Forecast gives us sun today and so we might magically see lots of this cloud clear up this morning and this afternoon leaving us with a very fine day. It really does feel magical when that happens. It's set to be milder later as well and tomorrow. Snow is back on the way later tomorrow but before then there's a chance of some rain, here at base anyway - hopefully (and probably) that will be straight into snow at higher elevations. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. A bit of heavy (omoi) snow up higher yesterday, but it was raining in the village and at lower levels unfortunately with very mild conditions and strong winds. Not the best conditions that's for sure! But! It got colder overnight and there has been some snowfall. Just a few cm here around base areas. Bit more higher up (Cortina report up to 20cm). Hard and icy conditions lower down, and a bit 'dust on crust' as I have heard from a few people this morning. Could really do with another deep delivery to give us a proper refresh. There's quite a lot of cloud hanging on but also blue skies opening up now. Fairly strong winds again this morning which are affecting some lifts - details as I have them at the time of writing the report are noted below. That situation may well change. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Hello on this middle day of the long weekend here in Japan. And there's fresh snow in Hakuba. Yesterday rather strong winds prevailed and there was no new cm of snow during the day. Lots of cloud, some snow falling, some blue sky at time and in places. A whole big mixed bag of weather conditions. As I said though, new cm snow of overnight on the mountains with around 10cm being reported mostly - Hakuba Goryu posting the larged number with 25cm of fresh up on Alps Daira apparently. Sounds good to me. Just a bit down here at base and at village level. Limited visibility on the upper slopes this morning - snow is falling and it looks pretty fog taking a look at the cams. I'll be up there soon to take a good look myself. Moderate to heavy snow is forecast for today so fingers crossed I'll be bringing in some more decent numbers in the report tomorrow. From tomorrow less snow is likely with clear weather lined up for Tuesday through Friday. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Loads of snow. Oh yes. It's a very good morning from here in Hakuba, with a good 35-40cm or so piled up outside my place this morning. Resorts around the valley are reporting nice deep fresh layers of snow as well. I've added the numbers where available by the notes for each resort below. Special mention to that 60cm recorded by Hakuba Cortina. No doubt there's more than a few excited folk experiencing that powder right now as I sit here typing this. I'd prefer to be sat here, of course! ;) Happo-one clocking in 50cm at Usagidaira. Kashiyamari reporting 50cm. 40cm at Goryu. They're all good numbers this morning. Must admit, I wasn't expecting them but I'm certainly not complaining as we should be back to full on conditions this morning. Poor visibility in places as well. Unfortunately stronger winds on mountain are affecting some lifts and I've also added that to the notes below. It goes without saying, that situation may (hopefully) change of course during the day. Today is the last day of this long 3 day weekend in Japan course, with things settling back to normal once again from tomorrow. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . I'm happy to report snow started falling overnight in Hakuba. The day yesterday ended up with some sun and blue sky to enjoy amongst the remaining clouds. This morning there's a good 10cm on the ground around village areas, and resorts reporting more (as noted below). A bit heavy perhaps but forecasts tell us to expect temperatures to actually drop as the day progresses today and so I expect some fine snow to be falling up there during the day and tonight. Snowing now and generally poor visibility on the slopes as well as a moderate to strong northerly wind. For the moment I can only see that the top part of the Gondola at Tsugaike Kogen and the top lifts there are stopped due to the weather conditions. Some course areas at Hakuba Cortina and Iwatake closed due to avalanche danger and checking going on over there. All other areas seem to be open as normal. The snow is forecast to stop sometime around tomorrow morning and local forecasts are predicting a quick clear up and maybe even some sun again. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Lots of fresh snow over the last day or so here in Hakuba. As you can see from the reports coming in from around the different resorts around the valley, differing numbers being reported but the general headline is decent fresh snow out on the mountains this morning. Snow and limited visibility for most of the day yesterday, and poor weather conditions actually made Kashimayari (where I was) cancel their nighta. But I think for many it would have been a great day in the snow with some very fine conditions. A different look this morning with lots of blue sky above Hakuba and the sun shining down on us. There's still a big bank of cloud covering the mountain backdrop from view, but blue skies above that. Some strong winds are present on mountain this morning though and there is some lift disruption at Happo-one and Hakuba Goryu with the top lifts at both resorts on hold as of 9am. Let's hope they can get those open soon so people can enjoy those top areas. More snowfall due tomorrow afternoon to be followed by a few days of clearer skies again according to the latest local forecast. Chance of temperatures rising slightly around Wednesday, we'll look at that situation again nearer the time. Doesn't look like it should warm up too much though. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Yesterday turned into a real beauty. By mid morning the remaining clouds over the mountains had all but disappeared leaving us with fantastic scenery, fine blue skies and lots of sunshine. A really beautiful early evening as well. Stunning. Not much can be seen this morning though, as the snow is back and it's coming down pretty good up on the mountains looking at the webcams just now. Limited visibility. Only up to a few cm or so at most to report from around the ski-jo so far, but it should be snowing for the day and so I expect to bring news of fresh cm tomorrow morning. Feels like a moderate north easterly wind, but all resorts appear to be planning on opening as normal. Hopefully that will be the case. Back to clearer skies tomorrow and Wednesday maybe before a return to snowfall on Thursday. --- Someone has asked why the Adventure Course at Hakuba Goryu seems to never open. Just spoken with someone over at the resort about that to get an official word - it might open but they don't feel it's the conditions to open it right now... safety concerns by the sounds of things. --- Official snow depth numbers and operations at time of writing on Monday 19th January 2015. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Lots of fresh snow being reported this morning. Over 15cm outside my place, but more importantly resorts reporting some nice deep conditions out there. Poor visibility though with some thick cloud and foggy conditions up there early on... much as it was for lots of yesterday actually. The webcams from around the resorts almost all show... well, not much actually! The mountains are covered in cloud. Top lifts at Happo-one are going to be delayed but the weather conditions are forecast to improve and it might even get to be sunny later on in the day. With more sun forecast for tomorrow as well and warmer conditions. We'll have to enjoy those clearings while we can though as it's due to be snowing again on Thursday. --- Official snow depth numbers and operations at time of writing on Tuesday 20th January 2015. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . It's another relatively mild morning here in Hakuba, with the temperature in village currently just slightly over freezing. Somewhat wet and heavy conditions yesterday with a mix of snow on mountain and rainy conditions lower down. Some resort areas reporting up to 15cm of snowfall on upper areas this morning, with just a bit nearer village. Limited visibility at times. This morning, cloud cover and fog once again giving reduced visibility all round. Snow is falling - again it's not the best light powder snow that we all prefer... but snow all the same. There's a moderate northerly wind at the moment too. Looking towards the weekend and for tomorrow it seems that after a cold night tonight, we have a good chance of clear and sunny conditions over the region during the daytime and decent into Sunday as well. The next decent snowfall is forecast for around Tuesday or Wednesday. Anyway clear skies tomorrow would be good for the weekend. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba and it's a fairly mild and cloudy start to the day. Yesterday was a real beauty. Deep blue skies, bright sunshine and just a bit of cloud here and there for most of the day. It eventually got cloudy with them covering the mountains late afternoon and we have had some snowfall overnight. Resorts around the valley are reporting up to 10cm of snowfall - as noted in the areas below where that information is available - and there's up to 5cm on the ground here at base this morning as it eases off. Back to this morning and cloud hanging around and the last of some light snow lazily falling early on. A few areas of blue sky are already showing through from behind clouds and we're basically expecting a fine day here again with more sunshine today. Looking ahead, tomorrow's forecast is for warmer temperatures - rising up to around 6 degrees - with the chance of rain going into Tuesday. With temps dropping it should be turning into snow; straight into snow on upper slopes. I'll let you know how that goes. In the meantime, should be a fine day today. Feels much colder this morning and the thermometer confirms that. Slight snowfall on the mountains but generally a bit crusty out there.
