Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 0cm
Snowfall at base this season 420cm

Posted on Friday 3rd May 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Hakuba.

Wind affected top lifts at Happo-one yesterday and unfortunately it looks like the same is happening this morning (with just the Panorama course available at the start of the day today). Just want to add it doesn't feel particularly windy down in the village.

Those windy conditions yesterday won't have helped the remaining snow and it is getting thinner pretty much in all areas now - though still good cover on upper areas that remain open. That really is good going for early May. We now have just over 3 days left to go - gambare, ski-jo staff!

Anyway this morning it is sunny, we have blue skies (thin cloud in places) and good clear weather is expected from today through Sunday and getting somewhat warmer (up to and around 20C).

Some lovely sakura (cherry blossom) and other blooms to be enjoyed now too...
