Winter is back in full force today as a huge low pressure system sweeps its way across central Hokkaido.

All traces of yesterday's Spring-like weather have been erased by a fresh blanket of newly fallen snow.

We are surrounded by sunshine and blue skies this morning but snow is expected to settle in later in the day.

It is another glorious day in Furano with blue skies surrounding the resort and plenty of sunshine.

Furano woke up to no more than a dusting of snow overnight, but since 9am it has been snowing moderately and is quickly starting accumulate on the ground.

The winds have all gone for now and today is an overcast and relatively mild day.

The snow didn't give up after all.

They say that March comes in like a lion, and last night would be no exception.

Yesterday afternoon moderate snowfalls arrived and continued, delivering 20cm at village level by early evening.

There is a nice light layer of fresh central Hokkaido powder covering the town and ski area, and the good news is the snow should persist through until the end of the week with heavy snow on the forecast for Saturday evening.

It is a crisp clear day with little wind and great views all around.

It was a clear and blue sky day though this morning it has clouded over and at the moment a bit of snow falling from the skies.

The snow really hit Furano hard yesterday, blanketing the whole town in anywhere from 10 to 20cm in the heavier snow bands.

The snow is coming down at a steady, even pace in Furano this morning.
