The weather this morning so far has been kind of confusing and rather changeable.

This morning it is an all round grey and cloudy start to the day with something of a damp feel with spots of rain in places.

So yesterday snow was falling and it was quite windy, causing some ski areas and lifts to be closed for the day.

The mountains looked spectacular yesterday morning. We enjoyed clear blue skies and sunshine for the morning. Beautiful.

Some snow higher up from mid morning yesterday with rain lower down which thankfully turned into snow later on... and this morning there is a layer of snow on the ground.

Light snow continuing to fall this morning though it should be easing off and stopping this morning.

You might have seen the update mid-morning yesterday as those early morning clear blue skies quickly made way for more snow.

We got more snow during the day yesterday with it easing off later on. 18cm was moved as of 6am.

Yesterday there were blue skies and calm conditions in the morning and into the afternoon too.

It's a lovely morning. A dusting+ of snow overnight though no specific numbers being reported by ski areas.

Light snow still falling here and while it has been snowing for large parts of the time since the report yesterday, there's not a huge amount of fresh to report.

There was more snow during the day yesterday and overnight, though not quite as full on as it was and not as much as the forecasts (including the often close to correct Niigata Prefecture snowfall forecast) told us to expect.

This morning Kagura are reporting 40cm of snowfall; Maiko are reporting 30cm. Those numbers seem on the low side.
