Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 17cm
Snowfall at base this seas 732cm
Posted on Wednesday 20th January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
So yesterday snow was falling and it was quite windy, causing some ski areas and lifts to be closed for the day. It means that the snow was piling up in ways it hasn't for lots of this season, which has seen a curiously low amount of strong winds so far.
Those places are back open this morning as it is a calmer picture. Still some light snow lingering in places early on, but less wind and visibility is improved.
This is how much snow is being reported by ski areas:
Ishiuchi Maruyama: 10cm
Iwappara: 25cm
Maiko Snow Resort: 0cm (though their official snow depth numbers have increased by 10cm)
After clearing away 12cm yesterday evening, there's another 5cm at the measuring point this morning. So there should be a nice new layer of snow out there on the slopes.
We are forecast a cloudy morning with the chance of clearer skies later in the day; it should remain cold through the day.
Tomorrow will be somewhat warmer and sunshine is forecast for the day.
