Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 17cm
Snowfall at base this seas 674cm
Posted on Sunday 10th January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.
Good morning from Yuzawa.
You might have seen the update mid-morning yesterday as those early morning clear blue skies quickly made way for more snow. There were changeable conditions through the day with some periods of clearer skies mixed in with further snow. Not much in terms of cm yesterday and overnight another 13cm has being measured.
It is still snowing and a cold morning. The snow should be easing off by tomorrow and maybe from around Tuesday we might get to enjoy some clearer skies with sunshine.
The Southern Area of GALA Yuzawa is part open today, with the Batman and Eliza courses open and the Waggonette pair lift operating. The Ropeway connecting GALA with Yuzawa Kogen is not operating, some kind of maintenance going on there.
The top quad lift at Iwappara is also back up and running this morning.
Other than that things seem to be opening as they have been. Should be excellent snow conditions all round, and very large amounts of it.
It looks like areas of Niigata (and other prefectures) nearer the Japan Sea coast got some uncharacteristically heavy snow this last few days. They are of course not quite as used to heavy snow as we are, so it quickly starts to cause all sorts of problems.
