Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 9cm
Snowfall at base this season 229cm
Posted on Friday 6th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
Cloud with light snow at times/in places this morning, though I don't think we are expecting much snow today.
My report is a bit later today on purpose. In recent days, the ski area seems to have posted a snowfall number early morning and then changing it after 8am (and after my report). Perhaps taking into account snow in that hour? Or a modified reading? Not sure. So I am keeping an eye on that and trying to work out what is happening. Obviously, I want the information posted on this report to be correct. Perhaps my report should be made after 8am every day, rather than before as I had been doing on some days recently. The obvious huge benefit of a post-8am report is that Naski can be seen on the Hikage webcam image.
Fresh snowfall reported by the ski area (since yesterday morning):
- Yamabiko: 20cm
- Uenotaira: 25cm
- Hikage: 12cm
- Nagasaka: 12cm
- Karasawa: 10cm
Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area):
- Yamabiko: 190cm
- Uenotaira: 190cm
- Hikage: 145cm
- Nagasaka: 130cm
- Karasawa: 90cm
All lifts now normally operating except these lifts:
- Challenge pair [usually closed on weekdays]
- Utopia pair [usually closed on weekdays]
- Hikage quad (due to maintenance)
All courses are now open except the following:
- Mukobayashi
- Hachiman
- Kandahar (restrictions)
Planned night skiing (Nagasaka quad):
- 8th January 2023
- Every Saturday until 25th March 2023
