Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 57cm
Snowfall at base this season 745cm

Posted on Tuesday 21st February 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Woohoo! Some big snow numbers this morning. By 3pm yesterday, the ski area was reporting 3-15cm of new snowfall across the mountain. This morning they add another 40-70cm on top of that after heavy snowfall overnight.

One of the biggest hauls of the season, I'd say. :)

It has been snowing still this morning, but as I write this it has actually eased off. But it's due for the day, so the icons are snow on the report.

There's a moderate north westerly wind, but not enough to affect lifts at the start of the day.

Tomorrow there looks to be a good chance of clearer skies and sun.

Fresh snowfall reported by the ski area at 8am (since yesterday morning):

- Yamabiko: 75cm

- Uenotaira: 82cm

- Hikage: 55cm

- Nagasaka: 57cm

- Karasawa: 43cm

Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area):

- Yamabiko: 315cm

- Uenotaira: 265cm

- Hikage: 185cm

- Nagasaka: 190cm

- Karasawa: 135cm

All lifts now normally operating except these lifts:

- Mizunashi triple

- Yunomine pair

- Karasawa pair

- Challenge pair (usually closed on weekdays)

- Utopia pair (usually closed on weekdays)

All courses are now open except the following:

- Yunomine A

- Kandahar (restrictions)

Planned night skiing (Nagasaka quad):

- Every Saturday until 25th March 2023
