Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 283cm

Posted on Thursday 19th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Good morning from... Tokyo. Yes, I am away this morning but have spoken with a trusted friend back in the Nozzle.

Snow didn't really happen yesterday - not in any real way. The ski area is reporting 3cm on the top Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas and there was just a dusting lower down. (My friend didn't mention rain, but perhaps just didn't want to. I know that feeling well!)

I feel various forecasts have had more than their fair share of 'fail' this season so far, so I look at them with some cynicism. They currently say snow tomorrow night, and then some good proper snowfall incoming in the first half of the week. Let's have a Nozawa-like few days of heavy snow, hey?

This morning the sun is out and there are blue skies above the mountain. Beauty of a morning. Cold too. Wish I was there!
