Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 12cm
Snowfall at base this season 272cm

Posted on Wednesday 11th January 2023 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

A fine day ahead of us here and as we had fresh snow yesterday it should be a good one. It was a cold start to the day, it will warm up a little during the day with the sun. Not too much.

More sun and milder conditions due tomorrow.

By the way, I'm not posting the numbers that (I think) the ski area posted yesterday and this morning as they seem... really kind of odd. At the time of me writing my report anyway. There's some nice fresh snow out there from yesterday, though, and that's what matters.

Official snow depth numbers (reported by the ski area):

- Yamabiko: 210cm

- Uenotaira: 170cm

- Hikage: 130cm

- Nagasaka: 120cm

- Karasawa: 85cm

All lifts now normally operating except these lifts:

- Challenge pair (usually closed on weekdays)

- Utopia pair (usually closed on weekdays)

- Hikage quad (due to maintenance)

All courses are now open except the following:

- Mukobayashi

- Hachiman

- Kamoshika

- Kandahar (restrictions)

Planned night skiing (Nagasaka quad):

- Every Saturday until 25th March 2023
