Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 23cm
Snowfall at base this season 1431cm

Posted on Sunday 23rd February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

An early start today, since I have business on the hill (ah, the morning commute on the chairlift... it’s a hard life).

Nice snowfall overnight, and light, too with cold temperatures. Not a huge amount once again; some people are reporting more snow was falling along the coast, in Joetsu City and other areas. That happens if we get a west wind, or really the diversion of northwest winds to the west and up the coast (maybe being deflected by the Noto Peninsula? Meteorologist, please weigh in).

Lots of people have noticed the good snow, though; the Akakan parking lot was full just after 8 today. Looks like all the lifts are ready to go, although Lotte Arai doesn’t have any confirmed lifts yet. They were busy digging them out earlier for this three-day weekend, so I’d expect the gondola and upper Zendana lift should be going. The Kokenashi lift is marked as not running, though.
