Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 35cm
Snowfall at base this season 494cm

Posted on Saturday 18th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

It's starting out clear and cold this morning, with a beautiful pink sunrise and -9°C on the car thermometer. About 30-40cm of super-light powder fell through the day and into the early evening yesterday. It looked at moments like there could be a lot more, but the really heavy load looks more likely for tonight (and clouds are already forming over the ocean to the north). Good for me, as we'll be climbing today and 40cm of fluffy powder is a lot easier to get through than 70cm of solid Myoko powder.

All the official reports below are from yesterday; with reports coming out at nearly 10 in the morning, it's hard to keep things timely. I'm measuring myself here at the base of Akakan, so at least you know how much fresh there is, and you can add to your favorite resort accordingly.
