Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 40cm
Snowfall at base this season 534cm

Posted on Sunday 19th January 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Snow. Lots of snow. Not typical Myoko snow either, with cold temperatures making it nice and light.

The official reports don't really reflect it yet, but we're seeing about 40cm at the base of Akakan, and it's continuing to fall at a rate of maybe one to two centimeters per hour (yeah!).

If you prefer sunny skies, this is not your day; if you like powder snow, get out there!

It's mostly calm, too, but there are some big blasts of north winds coming through from time to time that could make a chairlift ride more refreshing....
