Its interesting to see what will happen to the Chinese student accused of serious crimes in Fukuoka. He has fled back to China and now the Japanese authorities are grovelling and requesting to China that he be extradicted to face charges in Japan. Will China extradict him or will they spite Japan for Japans arrogant policy of not extradicting its own citizens?. If it was going the other way you know that Japan wouldnt hand one of its citizens over, so why should China?

Naturally he should be turned over but this is wake up call for Japan. its high time that Japan dropped the holier than thou superiority attitude and change its policy about extradition of those accused of serious crimes. If its good enough for China or another country then its most definetly good enough for Japan. I guess that old attitudes towards the mainland die hard.

Cooperation goes both ways.

Fujimori is guilty of a lot of things, but I don't think mass murder is one of them. Nevertheless he really should have been sent back a long time ago.

The Japanese government needs a bloody good kick up the arse. The Japan Times recently had an article about the Hibakusha who live overseas (ie korea). The high court recently reversed a government decision and forced the government to pay these people the Yen34,000 per month for medical expenses that (presumably) the local Hibakusha receive. After 4 months the money still hasn't been paid apparently because of difficulties of working out the payment arrangements with the different banking systems (!). The Korean Hibakusha also need to return to Japan at least once before the payments will start. So of course, those who are ill can't trvael and so therefore can't receive the money! mad.gif Policies like that demean this country. It is just so petty. Not handing over Fujimori is simply another example of how badly Japan is served by its leaders.
