Ocean11 0
Main Entry: ground zero Function: noun Date: 1946 1 : the point directly above, below, or at which a nuclear explosion occurs 2 : the center or origin of rapid, intense, or violent activity or change 3 : the very beginning : SQUARE ONE Probably a conflation of 1 and 2, definitely nothing to do with 3. mogski 0
This is exactly what I had feared was the origin of ground zero. 1 would otherwise be totally irrelevant if it weren't for the dramatic aura that surrounds the whole event. Ground zero illustrates the focal point of a larger thing correct? Only that one area was destroyed and the surrounds intact. Is the "ground zero" employment being given a wider, broader intangible meaning to the rest of the "war on terrorism"?

Ocean11 0
They seem to be drowning in outlandish symbolism (that business about the shadows and the aeroplanes is almost worthy of the worst extremes of Taliban 'thinking').
DumbStick 13
Agreed on that, had to chuckle reading parts of that article.
