funny you say that! my wife just told me!

What a joke!

When you have people that are actually dedicated to the sport wanting to get a foot in the door ( I am thinking about having a shot @ K2) and dicks like these that have no chance at all taking up places. Its beginning to be a bit like WWF or what ever that crap is called these days....

yeah 2 things come to mind for me instantly, one is his weight and two his knees. Unless he has dropped a good 70kg (150lb) then he will be too slow (230kg was his Sumo weight).

And he retired from the ring due to dodgy knees, so I wonder how they hold up?

I wonder if he can kick? that sumo side leg raise and knee slap motion might have put him in good stead.

I also wonder if he can translate those viscious thrusts of his into punches?

But you know the event he performs at will be a sell out and the TV ratings will go sky high. Its guaranteed! The K1 bosses must be salivating \:\)

So you think you can take Akebono Indosnm?

Akebono has competetive experience and people would pay to watch him fight somebody else. He has dedicated his carreer to learning his particular style of fighting. He wants to fight in K1 so he's now a dick?

What are the specific credentials of K1 if it is not fit for the likes of an Akebono (or even Bob Sapp)??

Serisously what do you have that should put you in a K1 ring before Akebono confused.gif ?

no pedro, I didn't say that I could take him. And perhaps my "dicks" comment was a bit harsh, but I vos a little pissed last night when I posted eek.gif

I just don't like the way that K1 is heading. I have met Akebono on a few occasions this year and he is a nice guy but I don't think he would do that well, but you never know

I think that its interesting to have the K1 fighters fight fighters from other fighting backgrounds, but I think that they should do it as special matches, like they used to rather than throwing them in to the GP tournaments.

Yes this is the same as Bob Sapp, but I have never said that I thought that he was a good addition ( besides bringing in TV ratings and extra dollars, which i am sure this Akebono move is all about)

and the best thing that Bob Sapp ever did was knock out the ever boring "Mr. 4 times very lucky" Hoost, which I would pay to see happen again

he makes Sapp look tiny! and thats no mean feat.

here is a translation of his press conference

Q-How did you let your Oyakata know about your plans? what was his reaction?

A- Since this was a sudden decision, I felt I had to make my point

clear. I seemed to have annoyed him. When I asked him to let me go he

said, " I really want you to stay, but if you are this adamant , I can't

stop you from leaving".

Q- And your injury condition?

A- I didn't retire because I couldn't win anymore. I retired because I

was injured. I was in a situation that being a Yokozuna, I couldn't rest

till I got better, so I had to participate while I was injured, which

was unreasonable. I haven't done any keiko since I retired, but I've

been moving my body for the last three years. With every day that went

by, I wanted to get back into action. I know that K-1 is by no means

easy- I will have no alternative bu to to train exceptionally hard. I'd

like to continue till my body breaks.

Q- you didn't even let your relatives in on this..

A- That was my biggest worry. Regarding returning to active duty, my

wife once said "It's your decision,", but this time , she just listened

as i told her of my plans.

Q- When you retired, you said you wanted to bring up new deshi..

A- Of course I wanted to do that. But, just bringing them up would not

be a success- I thought that by becoming active again and thus being a

role model to them, it may help as well..

Q- If you could have acquired that toshiyori stock while you were still

active, would you have left for K-1?

A- That's a really complicated and sensitive question..

Q- Has your injury healed?

A- I think it's not 100% healed, but at this time, I'm Ok.

Q-Are you confident you can do it?

A- I wouldn't go for it if I wasn't confident- I'm not doing taking this

lightly.

Q- Are you still attached to Sumo?

A- I like Sumo very much, I'm in love with it. I don't belong to the

Kyokai any longer, but I'd like to assist in any way I can.

I would imagine that hacking the legs out from under a sumo would take a while...

Akebono, he's got size, thrust and height, and those are rather large assets, even in K1. Head blows would be the way to go, but his is rather well protected from the outset.

The Sapp/Akebono fight should be interesting, although quite what they're going to do if they make it to a second round...

With mike tyson and akebono joining K1 you are really spoiling us!

Is K1 on skyperfect? How often do they fight? Do they just have 3 or 4 big tournaments a year or what?

the are 2 broadcasts

Sky Perfect ch. 721 ( FUJI TV)

This is usually live when the fights are in Japan and shows all fights and often repeats each fight a few times.

2. Fuji TV ( regular TV ch.1)

usually shows a few of the fights ( a round missed here and there) from 10pm~ish on the fight night.

hope this helps
