nzlegend 1
....the Aral Sea? how does one lower the level of massive inland sea by 17metres and reduce its volume 75%??(rhetorical question) some former ports are over 100km from the shoreline now. What a massive ecological disaster (the whole climate has changed) instigated by the Soviets. Well done boys well done, at the current rate of evaporation the sea will have totally disappeared by 2025. A classic example utter ecological moronity ( if such a word exists) ...commie bastards Does anyway feel angry about the state of Aral region? (put your hand down Plucky I know you would )

mikazooki 0
bastards yes, moronic indeed, but not a failing inherent to Communism. In fact a shift to more socialist values will be necessary to stem the relentless capitalist pressures on the environment. as long as we allow nature to be freely exploited these problems will arise. to stop the exploitation u need to employ socialist values. even the method of issuing tradeable quotas to allow the market to internalise the costs needs somewhere for that money to go. if it is to do any good, it should go either to the people, or thru the government into environmental schemes. neither are very capitalist. NoFakie 45
This subject reminded me of hearing something similar about a lake (Owens Lake) in California. http://geochange.er.usgs.gov/sw/impacts/geology/owens/
