Seen this? Not bad work if you can get it.

A PAY dispute between the cast of The Simpsons and the programme's producers has finally been resolved.

Production of the hugely popular animated show was halted a month ago after contract renewal talks stalled over money.

The actors behind the voices of Springfield's finest were each seeking around £200,000 for each episode from series producer Fox Television.

This worked out at a total of £4.5million for the 22-episode 2004-05 season.

The previous deal saw them earning £70,000 an episode, according to The Australian.

"We couldn't be happier to have reached a multi-year deal with the enormously talented cast of The Simpsons," Fox said yesterday in a statement.

The studio said it was hopeful that all 22 planned episodes could now be finished.

A spokesman representing the cast said they had no immediate comment.

The contract dispute included actors Dan Castellaneta (Homer); Julie Kavner (Marge); Yeardley Smith (Lisa) and Nancy Cartwright (Bart), the paper said.

Their previous deal, which covered seasons 13, 14 and 15, was reached without complication.

In 1998, however, the cast - except for Kavner, who had a previous deal in effect - sought significant pay increases.

At that time, the performers made £16,000 an episode from a show that has proved a huge international moneymaker.

Harry Shearer - Mr Burns et al - and the Spinal Tap "pod" bassist....he does about 20 different characters on the series. When you hear him talk normally now, you can hear Mr Burns in there.
