Next you'll be telling me that Wales and Scotland are stand-alone nations!
It's REALLY a FOUR nations event:
Italy, France, Ireland, England/Scotland/Wales! (You're all English, Dude!) eek.gif eek.gif ;\) [/QB]
Mate youa re seriuosly setting yourself up for a big fall there!!!
As for England winning WC becasue of one player..well thats a pile of pith. The reason we won was mainly due to a fantastic forward unit who time and time again secured great ball to give thje worlds best number 10 '(at the time) options. THe defence and the forward play was best in the world and hence world champions who played some of the best running rugby. The team playing at present in the 6 Nations is a completely different team and the pack not even comparable. with the loss of Johnson, Dallaglio, Hill, Leonard, Back....

Just tongue-in-cheek comment of course ... ;\)

But consistency is the biggest let down for the Pommy Union and Cricket sides - no doubt they have the talent, funds and interest, but one minute they're up there, the next minute they're slid. wakaranai.gif

Does England have a national training system like Australia's Cricket Academy, etc?

At the end of the day, we're all after a healthy competition between historic rivals. \:D

Yeah? Well if that's true then Australia is still part of our Empire ;\)

As for the sports academy etc, well didn't the Aussie government set that up years ago so Australia could make up for (via the sports arena) all those things it lacks in "real life"?Like history, culture, a sense of national identity...oh sorry you do have Australia Day... greeeeaaat.

all tongue in cheek of course.

Actually, it was a serious question ( ) - does the UK have an equivalent of the AIS (Institute of Sport)or do they rely on the old county team system still?

Such Institutes usually create a balance and depth, something seemingly lacking in English Cricket and Rugby at the moment - on this occasion I'm NOT bagging the Brits, just trying to find out how their system works.

England do have a cricket academy very similar to Australia's one. The aussie one isn't the AIS though (that's mainly olympic-type sports... in Canberra), it's the Australian Cricket Academy... It was in Adelaide but now has moved to Brisbane.

As for England, it's the "National Academy". Interestingly enough, do you know who's head coach there? It's Rod Marsh, former head coach of the aussie academy \:\)
