I've just finished reading a book called Seven Basic Plots which goes into the, er, seven basic plots to any story. Here's what they are according to this dude:

--Overcoming the monster

--Rags to riches

--The quest

--Voyage and return

--Comedy

--Tragedy

--Rebirth

Interesting book. Trying to think of a flick that can't be put into one of those groups.

The last movie I saw "Finding Neverland" is none of the above. It has little elments of tragedy but that is not the crux of the story, there is no quest it just happened, it wasnt that funny - no comedy, no monsters, no-one got rich, there was no big voyage - unless the trip to the country cottage constitutes one, no-one was "reborn".

Maybe that is why it is such a good movie you cant categorize it into cozy little niches....

Didnt have to think hard to prove that theory wrong....

I agree, it was a good movie that one.

It will be the only good movie for 2005.
