1 4
I've just finished reading a book called Seven Basic Plots which goes into the, er, seven basic plots to any story. Here's what they are according to this dude: --Overcoming the monster --Rags to riches --The quest --Voyage and return --Comedy --Tragedy --Rebirth Interesting book. Trying to think of a flick that can't be put into one of those groups.
rach 1
I think they're all vague enough to cover everything.
nzlegend 1
The last movie I saw "Finding Neverland" is none of the above. It has little elments of tragedy but that is not the crux of the story, there is no quest it just happened, it wasnt that funny - no comedy, no monsters, no-one got rich, there was no big voyage - unless the trip to the country cottage constitutes one, no-one was "reborn". Maybe that is why it is such a good movie you cant categorize it into cozy little niches.... Didnt have to think hard to prove that theory wrong....
eskimo 0
Agreed, and I really liked that movie too good one. Johnny Depp is just so different in almost every movie he does, good actor.
mfurmane 0
should "comedy" really be considered a plot?
brett_jackson 0
Most movies written by Charlie Kaufman probably wouldn't fit into those categories. At least .... not neatly anyway.
