SerreChe 2
For those of you thinking about a transceiver, this site has lots of info. It also reviews and ranks the beacons. Enjoy. http://www.beaconreviews.com/transceivers/Specifications.htm
tsondaboy 0
Interesting site SC. They also have a review about the Orthovox S1.
SerreChe 2
The S1 looks like an interesting new concept, but it seems they need to iron out a few problems on it.
tsondaboy 0
If you want my opinion, even if they solve some of the accuracy problems they have they will never be able to make it as reliable as PIEPS or TRACKER. At least not with the current technology beacons implement. Still it is interesting concept that looks into the future.
SerreChe 2
You may be right Tsonda. I like the fact that manufacturers are trying new things though. A while ago when the tracker first came out a lot of purists dismissed it and critized it but soon realized that the digital beacons really helped speed-up searches especially for those with less experience. So although I am also a bit doubtfull about the S1, I wish them success. Who knows, maybe it will be the next generation of beacons. Seems they like the pieps on that site. I like the fact that you can update the software as well with the pieps, that pretty cool. I'll try to download the latest soft one of these days, would like to be able to test the frequency drift for the beacons of some of the people I go with, just out of curiosity. marnix 0
If I understood it correctly the freq drift of Pieps is mainly their own. It is the way the device can located more than 1 user. (Pieps give mutiple signals with small freq changes) I might have completely misunderstood the explanation (way too technical for me).
SerreChe 2
Interesting Sanno, did not realize that, thought could check any beacons' freq. Will double check.
SerreChe 2
hmmmm, here they do not mention that the function is only limited to Pieps beacons. Not sure what the scoop is. http://www.pieps.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=
tsondaboy 0
I always assumed (without reading it somewhere) that beacons use the phase difference between the signals to distinguish them. If they are just doing it by the phase drift, man they need to start using some new technology fast.
quattro 1
has any one tried or use the Barryovox Pulse?
SerreChe 2
Sounds like a great beacon. I actually have not come accross many peeps using Barryvox in Japan. Would like to hear more about it.
SerreChe 2
Looks like BCA (Tracker2)finally got the triple antenna going: http://www.earnyourturns.com/articles/dynamic_articlepg.php?articleID=
