Well Jolly Good- Do you have a background in any other type of close to similar sport? If not, Get yourself a good quality long Skateboard (40-46")for snowboard practise or a pair of rollerblades for ski practise. Lots of the balance aspects will be very similar as well as the muscles that you`ll be torturing for the first day or two. For snowboarding I found that a pair of MTB crash pants saved me about a million bruises. Lots of good padding right where you need it. Buy the Snow guide book from the newsagents when it comes out at the start of the season and you`ll find lots of really cheap package deals to any of the aforementioned places you might like to go.
