viv&kev 0
We know where the popular ones from looking around here and reading reviews and stuff, but what about SIZE - where's the BIGGEST resort in Japan? Anyone know?
oo 1
If you take all the "resorts" that comprise the area, then surely Shiga Kogen wins out on this one... Good place too.
gorilla 0
For non-connecting separate resorts, where would that be? Nozawa? Zao? Kagura? Happo?
DumbStick 13
Zao covers a big area doesn't it? Shiga when you consider all the resorts though is a huge area. Is that cheating?
grungy-gonads 54
Shiga will always win out, but it really depends on if you mean the area covered by the resort - or the actual area of the slopes you can run on.
cal 6
Must be Shiga Kogen. Just 1 resort - would that be Happo maybe? Would be interesting to know.
wang 0
What is the biggest resort in Hokkaido? Will that be the Niseko places, I hear they aren't too big.
IM 0
A food for thought. Shiga: a multiple resort area Happo, Zao: One single resort. Connected ones are: Kagura, Mitumata, Tashiro, now with Naeba. Niseko, Hirafu, Higashiyama, Annupuli I am not sure if connected ones are valid as it takes a good part of a day to get to the other side with connectors and gondolas. viv&kev 0
Thanks for that folks. I wonder what the biggest in the world it?
Twiki 0
Biggest in Japan in terms of lifts (unlinked) is Hakuba, in terms of linked lifts is Niseko. In the world, its Les Trois Valee (Meribel, Courcheval, Val Thorens et al.) in France, with over 500 kms of groomed slopes and well over 100 lifts! Vert wise it has to be Chamonix (also France) with over 3000m of lifted terrain. Puts Whistler to shame (1800m)! If only it had the snowfall to back it up... hope that answers. oo 1
Hakuba?! Surely that doesnt count as they are completely separate resorts whereas Shiga Kogen are resorts that are linked to make one big maassed area?
