dick 0
Been reading with interest all this talk about switch. Another word I don't really know much about - but hear quite a lot about - is "goofy". What's that all about then?
barok 0
if you ride naturally, with your right foot forward, you ride goofy-foot. if this is you then you would ride switch with your left foot forward. you would be riding "goofy switch," but i don't think anyone really says that. ivo 0
if your left foot is in front you are regular. if your right foot is in front you are goofy. (comes from the early days of snowboarding cause it looks so silly...)
Guest
so is it like an "official" position or way to ride the snowboard or just a slang?
ivo 0
yes, this is "official" and used since the birth of snowboard.
barok 0
so to recap, i think this is right . . . regluar = left foot as front foot goofy = right foot as front foot fakie = turned 180 from preferred stance switch = turned 180 from preferred stance, bindings can be adjusted to maximize performance as well. fakie is always switch, but switch is not always fakie. you can ride regular, turn 180, and be riding fakie, and switch. you can ride goofy, turn 180, and be riding fakie, and switch. you can ride fakie, with your bindings not adjusted, turn 180, and be riding regular. you can ride switch, with wour bindings not adjusted, turn 180, and be riding regular (same as above). you can adjust your bindings, ride switch(not fakie), turn 180 and be riding regular, not fakie. confoozled ? me too. ivo 0
ok we'll try it again! regular and goofy are ways to stay on your board! regluar = left foot as front foot goofy = right foot as front foot you choose one and that's enough for your entire life! the best way to figuere out if you are goofy or regular is, to use a skateboard or to slide (over an icefield with your boots or on a wooden floor in the socks...) regular and goofy is almost the same as you drive with a car in japan on the left and in america on the right side. switch and fakie means "riding backwards" switch is more common to discribes jumps and tricks, fakie is more common to describe riding. if you do a switch jump, you are riding backwards to the kicker (it has nothing to do with the landing!) if you riding fakie, you just ride backwards. so if you are riding fakie or switch with your car, you just riding backwards. the movement of the car and the gear will be the same in japan and in america! some on this forum thinks, to learn to ride fakie or switch is easier if you change your bindings from regular to goofy, or from goofy to regular. i think not so! it's fun to change your regular board with your friends goofy board just for 1 ride to try how it is. but it won't bring you much to learn how to ride fakie! i'm a fast fakie rider, i feel safe to ride almost everything backwards. but i really have problems when i change my regular board with my friends goofy board. is now everything clear??
