Haven't tried the magne traction, heard it is a pretty limited production this year. There are some reviews here

I ride a Lib-tech board, I can't say a bad thing about it, if I had to buy another board I would probably buy another Lib-Tech. Highly recommended.

There is a good story/interview with Mike Olson founder/director of Lib-Tech here

which is a good read. He is a pretty innovative guy. You will be surprised what he has come up with if you read it.

  • 1 year later...

Was lucky enough to get a Travis rice 161.5 pointy last year.It was so great, just blazed through everything. It really held it`s own in all conditions it was ridden in from icy hakuba to powder in hokkaido. It is a one trick pony but saves u the luggage space and decision on which of your quiver to pick.

And on 35 degree ice holds it own like nothing I ever ridden.Only downside is,

I can never ride a straight edged board again.

Was thinking to get a mullet 165 for the powderdays or get a Dark series and keep the trice for freeriding. mIght get another trice pointy this year too.

Will post pics of it when I get them taken.I am gonna take it out of storage soon in anticipation of the new season.

And yeah supposedly there were only about a 100 made last year.It was very hard to get hold of and not sure how many were imported in Japan, maybe 1 or 2.

Just ordered a Lib Tech TRS (total ripper series) online the other day.... I think it's last seasons, but got a good price. Featured in the transworld good wood top 10 so i thought it would be good value. Looks nice and is 162 cm which is about perfect for Jap pow for me...

Anyway ever ridden this one before? I would love to try the magne traction, maybe next time....in the meantime, i'll let you know how this one goes when i ride it

Hmmmmmmmm. 1st post. Edited. Gushing almost poetic review. And right on cue. You wouldn't happen to be affiliated with lib tech would you spacefrog?

the lib tech website doesn't say anything about Magne Traction being limited edition in any way (maybe the pointy nosed Travis Rice one would be made in less numbers than the others, but apart from that), and if they were limited edition the brand would be pushing that to stimulate demand.

I haven't tried one, but would love to (maybe not on rails!) but they have had good reviews for something so unusual.

Mike Olson is a bit of a crazy scientist genius, and Travis Rice is probably the best all round rider in the world, so if he chooses (gets paid!?) to rip on them, they can't be that bad.

I haven't ridden one yet, but living in the Pacific Northwest, I've heard plenty of reviews. It seems two-thirds of people who've ridden it love, and the other third hate it. Those that love it really dig the edge-hold on hardpack and ice and don't notice the MT anywhere else. Those that hate it say you can't put it in a deep, long carve and that it feels like it wants to turn even when the rider tries to straightline it.

And Magne-Traction isn't limited at all. In fact, it has expanded, now featured on more models and sizes, including the once cap construction Snow Mullet tapered pow stick, which is now sidewall and features faint MT at the front, and gradually increasing MT toward the tail to add edge hold when not in pow. (Bad run-on sentence there - gomen!)

Gushing poetic because I loved riding it last year.

And just to sound defensive :p no have nothing to do with libtech whatsoever. And I added something after I posted.Isn`t that why we can edit?

Furthermore you are right in assuming many other magnetraction boards were shipped to Japan, however the one I am on about was limited and probably only had very few imported into Japan.

I thought I had been quite clear in saying last years pointy trice(donkephant series) was limited to around a 100 pointy versions. And having trawled all around Japan I could only find 2 importers who claimed to have only one each.

I got mine from the States after hunting around online and I glad I did.

I guess you must all be journalists as you are so good at taking things out of context.

;)I`ll try to not edit in the future.

Nothing wrong with gushing poetic.

It's good to hear people's opinions on boards.

I wouldn't call it a 'one trick pony' if you like it though! That means it's only good at one thing.

Yeah it was meant as in it can do anything anywhere, and I really tried it out in as many different conditions as I could, in all kinds of resorts on honshu and hokaido. It floated really well in deep snow and was actually best on groomed or icy runs, you could really tell it`s stability and holding at higher speeds.

I won`t deny it, I am pretty scared of icy conditions, I just scared to get my knees done in. And it gave me so much more confidence because it really does hold well. It has been named a quiver killer and while I know there are others that prefer more specialised boards, this board is like a swiss army knife.

Actually when I was lurking last year I saw this thread but had issues getting an account for some strange reason. So I wanted to tell Goemon that I had ridden one and that I really liked it.

I would definately get another, I am pretty sure the crazy edge will catch on and become more widespread.

Thanks, Kumapix! Yoroshiku o-negai shimasu! \:\)

I was about to get an MT Snow Mullet, but I decided to part with my Mervin-loving ways and got a Stepchild Ranquet for my pow stick instead. A couple guys I know are thinking of MT Snow Mullets though, so don't hesitate to ask a few months into the season and hopefully I can respond with a gear report.

(My next Mervin purchase will probably be a snowskate. Got to try one last season, and the missus and I LOVED it, even though we don't skateboard.)
