I am extremely bored at work today so have done a bit of a look. This is what was on a website:

Fujisawa Hakkoda Onsen Hotel

If you want to stay near the mountain, this is a great place to stay. We did a group trip here last year and stayed in a large tatami room. Two meals, and an onsen down the hall for 8000 a night. You can ski right to the door. It's great for weekend trips. Phone # 0177-38-2233 (book ahead)

Directions:

From Aomori-shi you can take 103 out, and it's about twenty minutes from the city. It's signposted all the way pretty clearly and you can't really miss it. From the Nambu side of the ken, you can take 102 out towards Towada-ko and then join up with 103, past Tsuta Onsen, but this road is closed for some of the winter. Around February it is re-opened, and you can drive up through the awesome "snow corridor" with about five metres of packed snow either side of the road. You can also stop on the road at various points and climb up the wall, and board around there; you'll see other boarders doing it.

And this one sounded pretty hard core but the penis onsen and ride in on the snowmobile sounded appealing. But no electricity! errrr...

Aoni Onsen

Aoni is fantastic! Through most of the winter, it is only accessible on weekends by snowmobile, but from mid April until the snow begins in December, it's open all week long and is accessible by car. The view on the ride in is amazing. You can see Mount Iwaki, a perfectly shaped volcano, the Hirosaki Valley, and the rolling, snow-embalmed hills that lead up to Mount Hakkoda, the highest mountain in Aomori. After about 20 minutes, you descend sharply into a cozy river valley, with abruptly rising slopes on either side. On this river, below a misty waterfall, is Aoni Onsen/Spa. There is a traditional Japanese hotel, built of large wood beams, with long hallways lined with tatami rooms for guests. There is no electricity, and the only light comes from oil lamps; the heat, from kerosene heaters. There are two, small and very clean, wooden onsens inside the hotel for washing up, but the nicest ones are outside and over the river. Dressed in only a robe and slippers, you exit from the hotel, cross an arched wooden bridge, and arrive at a steaming, outdoor, stone onsen with a view of the hotel and surrounding hills. The water runs into the onsen from deep in the bowels of the earth, through large wooden penises (though some of these giant phalluses have fallen off their spouts). These onsens are said to increase fertility (though, luckily, they have not been effective so far). The hotel is peaceful and most of the rooms provide a good view of the river or surrounding hills. The cost, per person, is around ¥8,000 a night (¥10,000 in winter), including a traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. It is also possible to camp across the river from the hotel for ¥1000, but bring food, as meals at the hotel are only for guests.

Heading east on route 102 out of Kuroishi you will find the access road for Aoni on your left about 20 minutes out. After you pass the large dam and cross a bridge, look for the sign above the road, but watch carefully for it. It's a small road. There is a pull-off with some parking available in the winter for snowmobile passengers.

For the Auto-Challenged:

There is a bus to the entrance of Aoni from Hirosaki, but from there it is 6 km farther. It is possible to hitch a ride in if you get there early enough in the afternoon.
